Don’t pay him. We drafted 3 players for the secondary this year so we can use the 15-20 mil/year for something else. Can’t pay Burrow, Chase and Bates. The Bengals will be good for a while due to the front office making good decisions with the cap.

@One Nation Underground bates was one of the worst safeties last years til the playoffs. He’s a high variance player, there’s cheaper player who provide more stability
Zak is probably going to build this thing similar to the rams ! If he’s smart he doesn’t break the bank for a safety 💯 receiving core, o line, RB, QB are taken care of and the front seven is legit ! Save that money for a CB who becomes available 👌🏽

What’s a franchise tag?
When a player’s contract is up their team can choose to sign them to a franchise tag, which disallows them from signing anywhere else and pays a set amount based off of whatever the NFLPA (basically the player union) negotiated with the NFL for that year. Each team only gets a set amount, and they can only use it a couple of times per one player.
It’s much more complicated than that (case in point how Jessie Bates was refusing to sign basically threatening to not play this year), but that’s the basic gist from what I understand.
