@Hello You are right ! Running could also mean running other players than just the running backs. That predictability makes it far easier to develop a game plan to defend the Chiefs. And what tends to happen is once the Chiefs run through the pre scripted plays the offense tends to stall. Because of lack of creative play calling, while teams have adjusted to what the Chiefs did in the first and second possessions. Mahomes will also need to run and use his legs more to buy time to keep drives going in the post season.

You are totally right. The predictability is why the Chiefs have been much easier to game plan for and defeat in the past two post seasons than in the first two post seasons. After watching tons of film on Mahomes teams have learned Mahomes tendencies and can defend him better. That is why new wrinkles have to be implemented to make defenses have to keep guessing what Mahomes and this offense will do next.

Run pass option calls are a staple.

@Caleb Brown I often imagine what Mahomes would do to the record books if they encouraged him to use his legs more often. The new rules are far easier for a quarterback than Bradshaw, Staubach and even Randall Cunningham played with. They didn’t have free releases where their receivers couldn’t be touched after 5 yards. Or the ability to sit comfortably in the pocket knowing the defenders must gently two hand touch you no higher than the pecks and no lower than the navel. Today’s game is so much more qb and offensive friendly.

@Josh Rutter sure for the first or 2nd quarters. Until the defense adjust and the play book runs out of the pre scripted plays. And they must create plays under pressure in real time. They need to develop longer scripts and become better at adjusting on the fly. They can do that by encouraging Mahomes to call a few more of his own plays. And encouraging Mahomes to use his legs to create on the fly or just pick up the 1st down or touch down with his feet.
