The future, don’t listen to the haters Love
I mean, only if Rodgers decides to retire before Love’s contract comes up. They’re not going to sign a backup QB to a second contract.
@TheModernPioneer So they’ll sign a new backup to a contract, but not sign one they’ve been working with? Sure, ok.
@mikeklamecki Love is a former 1st round pick, and will demand a larger contract once his rookie contract is over. This is the process with virtually all high-value young QB’s in the NFL. They won’t re-sign him because it would be too costly on the salary cap (unless Rodgers were to retire before that). This is the case with every single team in the NFL.
@mikeklamecki his 5th year option will cost 20+ million. If Rodgers retires in 2 years or less, is where it makes some sense to do that or give him an extension. Rodgers stays for 3 years or more than Love is gone. But even then, unless Love is upper half of the league talent or better, it’s a tough call. They’ll have to give a big contract to a likely unproven guy which ruins the “win with a young cheap qb while you load up the rest of the roster” window. Even if Love turns out decent or great, this was always the next part of the criticism of that draft pick.

I have Faith in Love, and when it’s his time he will shine. Playbook is daunting, speed of the game is shocking and when organizations give up to quickly or throw them in the fire to fast they wreck young QBs confidence. But Love will prove to everyone, you haven’t even seen him run yet, and he’s got a massive cannon, footwork is so much better under the tutelage of A-rod, Aaron when he entered everyone remembers his footwork issues?
