Geno Smith’s Instant Fantasy Reaction After Week 5 Performance vs. Falcons

Under the bright lights of Monday Night Football, the New York Jets traveled to play the Atlanta Falcons. Rather than crumbling under pressure, the Jets defeated the Falcons 30-28.

In the end, it was rookie quarterback Geno Smith who shone as he continued to emerge as a rising fantasy football star.

Impressive is a fine word to use for the rookie.

Smith was 16-of-20 for 199 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He also had three carries for 21 yards, helping to fight off a ferocious Falcons pass rush.

Keep in mind, Smith was once considered to be a candidate to go No. 1 overall in the 2013 NFL draft.

Smith now has thrown for 1,090 yards, seven touchdowns and eight interceptions with 106 rushing yards and a score. He’s topped 250 passing yards in three of his first five games and has led New York to a 3-2 record.

Unfortunately, turnovers have been an issue for Smith, which hurts his fantasy value. He’s displayed flashes of brilliance throughout the season, but as he plays with a wide receiver corps that has its fair share of question marks, the numbers won’t always be consistent.

Until he does this on a weekly basis, it’s too soon to start the former West Virginia Mountaineers star. Just don’t be hesitant to sign-and-stash Smith.
