Here’s some context for fans criticizing this move. Daniel Sorensen is Jeff Heath’s replacement. We didn’t sign him to replace Malcolm Jenkins or Marcus Williams. We don’t need him to start. This is a guy who went from an undrafted player to a starting NFL safety on a super bowl winning team (2 years ago -2020). As a 3rd/4th string safety, we could do a lot worse. Last year he was not as effective in coverage as his younger days, but that’s not why he’s here. We didn’t sign him to cover deep. That was something he had to prove 10 years ago, and he did. He’s a veteran now. At this point we need him to prove himself in a different way:
– Can you teach our young guys how to keep their heads on tight after a close loss?
– Can you keep our young players grounded after a blowout win?
– How much humility can you show & are you willing lead our special teams unit and set your sights on a ST pro bowl?
– Despite having a 4th string QB, we were 1 game out. Can you help us close a 1 game gap?
Not everyone has that humility. He might. I’m fine with this signing. I scout for hobby, and I assure you when he came out of BYU, nobody was expecting him to become an NFL starter. He did. He’s always been a physical player. Any guy that goes from “not likely to make it as a pro” to a 91 TKL & 3 INT season for a super bowl champ…yes, they’re welcome depth on my team & I’m betting there’s a strong will required to believe in yourself when nobody else does. Can he impart that attitude onto our young guys trying to overcome their own odds? People need to relax and stop acting like we signed him to be the centerpiece of our defense. He’s here to be a veteran leader and to contribute on special teams. If in a pinch, to shut down TEs in the short to intermediate and offer run support from the slot. Welcome to the New Orleans Saints, Daniel. For the 1st time in your career, your most important contributions to your team will not be measured by a stat sheet or by analytics. You’re a psychologist now, a teacher. Can you teach our young guys how to be the nastiest saltiest bunch in the NFL? I don’t care if we’re the best, but I sure would like to be the most feared. I want a defense full of philanthropists that love nothing more than to give away headaches and ice baths. As the NFL moves towards speed, nastiness has become underrated. Swing the pendulum back the other direction. Prove why physicality still matters.

Glad Dan is still working at 32 as a Kansas City chiefs fan he a good player 8 years..

Brought in to be a special teams guy thats why no specifics on his role.

I recall Sean Payton saying when putting together the 2006 Saints that you need guys (like Gleason) that will do anything that is asked of him. Well meet that guy for the 2022 Saints.

Daniel is my favorite football player and I am a bit upset that he isn’t still a Chief.
You Saints fans are getting a great guy and one heck of a hard worker. Dan doesn’t curse, he doesn’t complain, he just keeps smacking offense like you want a fella on defense to do.
