Fantasy Football Week 14: Stars to Avoid This Weekend

Fantasy football is all about trends and matchups, especially come playoff time.

The only thing that truly changes is the stakes, which are raised with each passing weekend in December.

With that in mind, let’s examine some fantasy football stars owners should look to avoid in Week 14.

Although Colin Kaepernick has shown tremendous improvement over the past two weeks, his matchup in Week 14 is anything but favorable.

Kaepernick and the Niners will host one of the league’s most vicious defensive units in Seattle on Sunday. Through 13 weeks, only Carolina’s defense ranks better in terms of fewest fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks, per NFL.com.

The Seahawks defended the dual-threat signal-caller brilliantly when the two teams first met back in Week 2 in Seattle. Pete Carroll’s defense forced Kaepernick to turn the ball over four times, and he would finish with just 127 passing yards and zero touchdowns.

While Kaepernick doesn’t project to be that dreadful on Sunday, it’s very unlikely he’ll come close to matching his most recent performances against St. Louis and Washington.

It might sound silly for someone to recommend sitting Eric Decker one week after he exploded for four touchdowns against Kansas City. But the truth is, unless your squad lacks depth at wide receiver, Decker is worth avoiding in Week 14.

The Broncos will host the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. And although Denver is favored by double digits (per VegasInsider.com), Peyton Manning won’t be able to pick apart Tennessee’s secondary the same way he did Kansas City’s in Week 13.

After all, the Titans rank tops in the NFL when it comes to shutting down opposing wide receivers, per NFL.com.

Tennessee has allowed just over 1,400 total receiving yards and two total touchdowns to opposing wideouts in 2013, which spells doom for Decker, who had gone four games without a score prior to Week 13’s explosive performance.

Zac Stacy, RB, St. Louis Rams

Rams rookie running back Zac Stacy is coming off his worst fantasy performance since he first took over St. Louis’ backfield in Week 5. But even more discouraging, Stacy is set to square off against one of the league’s most fearsome run-stopping units in Arizona in Week 14.

Which star will score the most fantasy points in Week 14?

Which star will score the most fantasy points in Week 14?

  • Colin Kaepernick

  • Eric Decker

  • Zac Stacy

The Cardinals rank fourth in the NFL in fewest rushing yards allowed this season and second in fewest fantasy points surrendered to opposing running backs, per NFL.com.

Keep in mind that Arizona has only allowed three total touchdowns to opposing running backs all season long. That doesn’t bode well for Stacy, who has only scored five touchdowns total, four of which have come on the ground.

Given what we’ve seen from the Cardinals’ dominant front seven through the first three quarters of the season, Stacy appears to be best suited for the bench this weekend.
