@suprcrzy unless it’s an important game or the playoffs. Fail Mary, roughing the passer (twice), ref doesn’t set the ball, SF fumble not called, offsides, 12 men on the field, etc. Know what you’re talking about before you spout off. (And yes, I can name calls the Packers got…Dallas WR – no catch on stretch comes to mind). The point is calls go both ways, there’s no grand conspiracy to give the Packers calls.
He probably couldn’t do it again in 100 tries.
@Ehrgeiz they make it look a lot easier than it is. not necessarily the catch thats hard, but he ran from the line all the way back in time to catch it, which is like 50 yards, super fast while being able to keep an eye on where the ball is and where its going.
You know it’s a good trick play if the camera is off center

@David Richardson I’m a cameraman and most camera ops can read the athletes better than the athletes themselves. This one did a pretty good job in picking up the runner. The runner wasn’t in the frame so he was also probably looking around the camera at the field at the same time and noticed what was going on.

The fact they still have manual camera men instead of what MLB does and it’s pitch tracking software….. referee and their eyeball measurements have cost so many teams games / millions of dollars

I saw the bears run it one time had hester fake like he was catching it had the whole punt team charging to him and knox returns it for a td. Was negated by a penalty sadly
May be difficult to pull of because you need a guy who can catch backwards but it is the NFL so…Also you have to expect its a sideways punt, but most teams have this play in their playbook and it could of just been a bad punt as to why it went to the side. Most teams have left or right punts is what I meant, the Rams 2 years ago is the first ones ive seen do this type of return like the announcer side, very finesse
Sadlt it took me several tries before I could even convince myself that he wasn’t the one catching the ball. That was impressive, or my mind is shutting down as I’m clearly well past my bedtime.
It’s clearly not even prime time unless you’re in a third world country like the UK.
I wonder what’s going through the mind of the punter when this happens lol, because he knows where the ball is but seeing all his teammates bite on the fake must be infuriating lmao “No! It went left!!”
I think Rodriguez punts right 85% of the time. He is one of the better punters in the league, according to punting video I watched.
that’s why whenever you punt, you have to scream as loud as you can what direction it went

Kicker is supposed to scream the direction of kick after he kicks it. As a former college longsnapper who free released, I know how blind coverage can be without that.
The remarkable thing is he was able to run all the way from the line of scrimmage and find the ball to catch it.
@Luke Shaw… 🤦♂️ Most those punts from the 50 are going to be catchable by just about anyone on the receiving team… Like I said, they’re booming those so their gunners can be at the returner before the ball gets there… I’m fairly sure I can out run a booming punt… Again, we aren’t talking about a kickoff…

It happened a few years ago in Rams game as well. I guess the punting team don’t look for the football in the air but instead concentrate on the punt returner.

Byron Murphy in one fell swoop showed his worth on special teams. What a catch, what a play.
Watching the Cards kickass has been great this season, ups and downs; but at least there is hope.

It doesn’t work at all.
It blows my mind that this is even possible. As early as freshman year in high school you have a spotter on the punt team to call out which direction the ball goes, for exactly this reason,
It’s only possible when the opposing team have a combined IQ of 2.
That catch over the shoulder was incredible.
It worked perfectly because the real returner was barely looking up at the ball and sneakily just caught it over his shoulder. That was the most impressive part of the play
All I see is amazing special teams coverage on a great trick play.
I’m shocked that teams don’t just do this every punt. What is the downside to doing this??
