Eric Wood: “A Lot More Weapons Coming On The Scene” | One Bills Live | Buffalo Bills

Bills Legend and radio color analyst Eric Wood joined One Bills Live to discuss the Bills win over the Bears including how impressed he was with the Bills run defense, the run game production on offense, and the progression of rookie RB James Cook. He discussed the confidence he has in the offensive line following the game in Chicago, the use of multiple receivers on offense, and what he expects out of Cole Beasley as the season roles on. Finally he took a look at the AFC as a whole and where the Bills stand to secure the #1 seed entering the playoffs.

I feel like the Bills have been hiding the run game all along. Saving it as a surprise for the end game. 😁

    Dustin Connolly

No, dorsey has been trying get a hc job off of the back of jallen

    J Bolton

I agree, they started running the ball more at the end of last season too.

    Jack Klenk

@Weldon MixI disagree. It has nothing to do with trust. It has everything to do with needing to be able to run the ball from December onwards and into the playoffs. You also need to put it on tape to take the pressure off your QB in the postseason. It’s that simple.

They have implicit trust in the QB position. It’s not even a question.

    Mike in Alberta

Nah, bills run game isn’t very good. Just playing teams who focus on Diggs and the recievers. The bills look like they don’t know what plays they should be calling which lands on dorcey. They’ve figured out how to win because they do have the talent. But the defensive play has helped the bills tremendously. Not looking forward to Bengals game. Can they win. Yes, will they. I dunno. Everyone will have to contribute. But, dorcey seems to be the problem with this year’s bills team as far as I’m concerned.

    Weldon Mix

@Jack Klenk Hmmm. Just a coincidence that right after the first Jets game they cut his passes in half? I’m not arguing. We don’t know. But they must have at least learned that he can’t carry the team. Few QBs can. There’s eleven guys on offense for a reason

Angelo Fresquet

That games best result. The bears 🐻 game. Was the Allen having bad day and running game being implemented and it went 💯🔥⚡️strong. Plus defense held up all over. Which shows they all said let’s get his back. This needed to happen. Plus the use of Gilliam, Morris, knox, Hines, Cooks, Singletary… etc. Great game for bills… bills have been able to run for years and especially this year.

D Yates

The Bills intrigue me. They are definitely NOT as explosive offensively as last year, but the “whole picture” has improved. I’m quite impress me. Especially down the stretch.

    Cole

They started out that way toward the beginning of the year, but after some injuries and weird plays by Allen midway through, they have brought it back to play smarter football. Now that Beasely and Brown are back to help us, and everyone getting healthy toward the end of the year, this is shaping up to be really nice for us.

    Big Box

Allen leads the league in games played in adverse conditions with 7. Patrick Mahomes has 1.

Don’t write Buffalo off. They ain’t write you back.

    Sprawlz

@Big Box well yeah but that’s every year for him. Allen is as good as any in bad weather and that can be HUGE if they maintain the 1 seed. Mahomes in the snow? Get outta here lmao

Patrick Fintak

We have to get the run game going early in every game. That’s what our oLine thrives on and is good at. Then they can settle in and start pass blocking a lot better which will help the passing game

    J Barkley

I like the strategy of going to the run game early, as well as the quick pass attack. Keep the chains moving, ware out the defenses early. And if you’re playing against a dangerous offense, you’re also keeping them off the field. Helps settle in the OL as well as Allen.

Paul Rath

Eric Wood is awesome. He’s one of the few commentators who really knows X’s and O’s, and can give insight on game strategy and how game was played.

    J Coz

All X players have that knowledge

    R Diddy

Wood played center, high intelligent position.

antonio mier

Go. Bills. Go all the way #1

Eric Brown

I’m guessing Taron Johnson can’t play safety because I’ve been wondering why he’s not taking Hyde’s place when we switch to a 4-3 defense?

DertyJerzy

Before this game started, one of the biggest weakness for the bears was their D line. They also have some injuries in their LB core. Not sure we should make such a big deal about the running success, it should have been expected IMO. If we can do this against the Bengals then we got something to be excited about. Turnovers still a problem, we won’t go far in the playoffs if they continue to give the ball away.

Gregory Schmidt

I believe that Bears run game was shut down with the return of Phillips. When he is in there the rotation is set and everyone knows their role.

Charles Dingman

We gave Miami the run to protect from Hill and Waddle from killing us. I knew we could shut down a run game if we need to.

    J Barkley

Exactly. When we need to, we’ll shut down a run game. We shut down Derrick Henry this season, Chubb and Hunt etc

    Paul Milkman

I think you’re right. For those who remember Super Bowl XXV, Belichick had to convince his players to play a defense that was likely to allow Thurman Thomas to run for 100 yards or more, in order to clamp on the Bills downfield passing game…sometimes you defend against what you fear. It’s not unreasonable to fear Hill and Waddle.

    Rick Saxe

@Paul Milkman I’ll never forget Super Bowl 25…
I wracked my brain to think of how a subpar Giants team could beat our powerful Bills.
Hold on to the ball and limit the Bills possessions.😢

    Paul Milkman

@Rick Saxewell yeah – Belichick apparently is a fairly smart coach. 😂

David Dean

Didn’t mention Shaq Lawson. He’s been playing really well

Vince Calabrese

I’m a bills fan ,but Philly is playing good this year ,they been dominating!!!!! I hope they lose!!????

J Coz

If Singletary had speed he’d be unstoppable

    J Barkley

For real. But what he is, is he’s a very good back, who contributes greatly to a top tier offense winning games.

Artemio Marifosque

Bengals already lost to the Rams in SB 56, but we beat good the Rams this season, so, Bills shall beat them on MNF Week 17 w/ focus by DC Leslie & OC Ken THAT Josh/Stefon & Jordan/Matt are wisest in this CLOSEST GAME, right? Bills 32, Bengals 29. Cheers from the Philippines!

E S

God I love Eric woods!

Michael Thurber

Thanks guy’s great show.

Lauren

Great show guys!

Howard Rizio

Wish Eric wood’s career wasn’t cut short. We could definitely use him on that OLine. And more importantly, he deserves to be on a great team with a QB like Josh.

Amy

I’m impressed with Dorsey for a first-year OC. He’s still learning and I think he’s doing fantastic with his progression. They’re 12-3, and people calling for him to be fired are clueless IMO. Give that man a chance to learn from his mistakes and I think he’ll be one of the greats.
Also, If their O and D could play elite at the same time they’ll be unstoppable.

Jason ME

Dude Eric. Wish you could line up again. Hope all is well. Happy new years
