Eagles’ Jackson: I’m too fast for Bucs’ Revis

PHILADELPHIA — DeSean Jackson is looking forward to this trip to Revis Island.

“I’m sure [Darrelle Revis] will follow me around,” Jackson said Tuesday. “He followed me around when he was with the New York Jets two years ago. I’m sure his coaches are confident in him. But I don’t think he can run with me. I don’t think he’s as fast as me.”

Jackson said Revis teased him to that effect when the Eagles played the Jets in 2011.

“He was like, ‘You’re too fast, slow down,'” said the sixth-year receiver. “I’m just going to try to put my speed on him and stress on him as I can. I’ve got to do what I need to.”

The Eagles (2-3) visit Revis’ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4) on Sunday.

DeSean Jackson is so fast. He’s the fastest receiver I’ve ever seen, by far.

Jackson was quick to make it clear his self-confidence doesn’t come from disrespect for Revis. Quite the opposite. Jackson relishes chances to pit himself against the league’s best.

“You’re always aware of who’s one of the best corners, and vice versa,” Jackson said. “He’s aware of who are the fastest receivers.

“He’s a great player. I don’t want to take away from him. He has elusiveness, he’s smart, he has intelligence, he has feet work. He’s one of those guys, he knows what he’s doing. He’s comfortable and he’s confident playing press or playing off the ball.”

In that 2011 game against the Jets, Jackson caught just two passes for 28 yards.

“We’re not going to make it into a one-on-one battle,” Jackson said. “This isn’t me and Revis, it’s Eagles against Tampa Bay. As long as we’re winning at the end, that’s all that matters to me.”

One player who can back up Jackson’s assertions on his speed is New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara, who had to cover the Eagles receiver Sunday.

“DeSean Jackson is so fast. He’s the fastest receiver I’ve ever seen, by far,” Amukamara said. “I just remember watching when I was in college — and nobody around here will talk about this — but that punt return against the Giants [in 2010]. And I remember wondering, ‘How fast must he look on the field?’ And it’s unbelievable.”
