Audio suggestions from a Lions-loving nerd:
#1. If the live stream audio isn’t on its own monitor channel already, it should be.
#2. The room audio mic(s) should be set to go out the monitor channel only (not fed to the house speakers) and if there’s more than 1 mic, they should be grouped.
#3. Mute and unmute the room mic/group as needed.
Given how regularly I’m hearing the lectern mic audio reduced and hearing the amount of feedback (ringing) as we are today, I’m thinking a different configuration with the mixer is order. The lectern mic should always be hot and at a level that doesn’t produce feedback in the room. The mic picking up the reporters cannot be piped to the house speakers reliably, but it’s important that you capture their audio (thus output only via monitor channel to the live stream).
From an uneducated fools perspective, it seems like they have the podium mic only and just tweak the settings on it to pick up the background noise (reporter questions) more effectively. Is this good? no. Will they listen to someone like yourself who knows what they are doing? Also no.
@ChipAlum If they increased the gain on the podium mic enough to pick up the reporters, it would also be increased high enough to pick up the audio coming out of the speakers, resulting in very loud feedback. The reporters are covered by a separate mic already, they just need to isolate it to the stream only. Then the person attending the session need only mute and unmute that mic, leaving the podium mic dialed in. Live audio is a challenge.
