Cowboys say no disk problem for Bryant

IRVING, Texas — Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the soreness in wide receiver Dez Bryant‘s back is muscle related, not disk related.

Bryant had an MRI earlier in the week and, according to a source, the results were the same as when Bryant had a test after last year’s season finale against the Washington Redskins. Bryant was forced out of that game when his back tightened, and he left the locker room in a wheelchair.

“I think we’re going to be fine,” Jones said as he walked to practice.

Bryant was on the practice field Friday for the second straight day. He was limited in Thursday’s workout. During the portion of practice open to the media, Bryant ran a series of red-zone routes without any apparent issues.

“I feel good and I’m playing on Sunday,” Bryant said after Friday’s practice. “That’s all y’all need to know.”

The Cowboys visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night.

Bryant has been bothered by lower back issues all season but has not missed a game.

“We don’t seem to have any long-term concern about that at all,” coach Jason Garrett said. “We’re just trying to address an issue. If you look at our locker room, and probably locker rooms all over the league, a lot of guys are nicked up this time of year and you’ve got to do your best as a medical staff to get them healthy, to get them out on the practice field and get them ready to play on Sunday.”
