Colin Kaepernick didn’t have a very good game in the San Francisco 49ers’ dominating win over the Houston Texans, and that will continue to hurt his fantasy value.
The 49ers’ starting quarterback threw the ball just 15 times, completing six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. He also had one rush for 14 yards, putting up just nine points in ESPN standard scoring leagues.
As talented as Kaepernick is, he can only do so much with the weapons around him. Anquan Boldin and Vernon Davis are talented players, but if defenses can contain both of them, Kapernick quickly runs out of options.
As far as trade value goes, I would say that you can definitely talk up Kaepernick and get some pretty good value on him based off the potential he has to put up big games. You could probably trade him for a respectable RB1 and an average QB who could honestly put up the same amount of points as Kaepernick this season.
There is some hope if you plan on keeping Kaepernick, however, based off of the upcoming schedule. The 49ers will be taking on some rather bad defenses with the Arizona Cardinals and Jacksonville Jaguars in two of their next three games.
At the end of the day, Kaepernick has a ton of talent and had the opportunity to put up games like he did in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers, but defenses are starting to plan against him effectively, and that’s hurting his value as a fantasy quarterback.
