Poor guy. Has to waste his whole career on the bears. Hopefully he will get to play for a good team someday

    JF1Bears4Ever

Enjoy 2 weeks without your QB 😂

Rich Lo

As big as he is..he doesn’t have the strongest hands

    Thomas Gena

. . . and he could run with a lot better lean — with more power. I wish the Bears had a coach that would get him to do that.

JF1Bears4Ever

I love Kmet. He’s a great blocking tight end. Fields is gonna enjoy playing with him for a loooooong time. 🐻👇🏻

    James

    Delusional

    Thomas Gena

No. Not “delusional.” With the proper coaching (and the work ethic each player has exhibited) it could be a long and successful run.

    James

@Thomas Gena No. Thinking Cole Kmet is good is delusional.

    Thomas Gena

@James His season (and those that follow) will tell the story. So, we’ll see.

    Matt Hix

You have to catch the ball

Brian Belden

FIRE MATT NAGY!

Sorry for your Life

Catch the damn ball go watch gronk tapes

    Thomas Gena

    Best advice, yet!!!

Leo.factor1

People want this guy to be something he’s not. He doesn’t have much speed, he doesn’t get much separation on routes and he’s not a great receiver. Kmet is big, strong and is decent at blocking. Shouldn’t of been drafted in the second round

    Thomas Gena

@Newnew Johnson Time is not frozen on these players. TE is one of the “easiest” positions to improve within because a lot of different styles of play are utilized in the NFL.

    Matt Hix

@Thomas Gena Id pick graham, horsted and holtz to start over kmet. Kmet runs and catches like a glass box. There’s not much NFL coordination in his ability as a TE

    Newnew Johnson

@Thomas Gena IT’S EITHER YOU GOT IT OR YOU DON’T AND NOTHING IN KMETS 2YRS OF PLAYING IN THE NFL HAS REMOTELY SHOWED ME HE’S ANYTHING BUT A BELOW AVERAGE TE WITH BAD HANDS,ROUTE RUNNING AND SPEED…… ALSO HE GETS BULLIED MY MUCH MUCHHHHH SMALLER DB’S YEAHHHHHHH HE AIN’T IT CHAMP SORRY NOT SORRY IT IS WAT IT IS 🤷🏿‍♂️👎🏾

    Newnew Johnson

@Matt Hix ABSOLUTELY WOULD TAKE ANY OF THEM 3 OVER KMET IN A HEART BEAT BRO NOT EVEN CLOSE 💯✔🐻👇🏿

    Thomas Gena

Let me set this record straight: you all are right. Kmet plays a weak offensive game — PERIOD.
If Cole Kmet had Darnell Mooney’s attitude, the NFL would have to make new rules to protect defenders.
Jesse James and Jesper Horsted are better receivers (but Kmet is the Bears’ best blocking TE — and he’s improving).
My point is: he’s not as bad as Nagy’s system has made TEs look. And his TEs’ coach is not doing anything effective to get Kmet into the habit of dropping his shoulder and hips, getting his weight going north-south, and go all George Kittle! Kmet’s 6-6, 260 lbs. Coach him up Clancy Barone — you’re the coach, earn your pay.
This is Kmet’s second season — and we’re not even halfway through it. Give the dude a minute to prove himself.
Time will tell who’s “right.” But once Nagy’s gone, (and takes Barone with him) I think you’ll see.

Newnew Johnson

KMET HAS BELOW AVERAGE SPEED,DOESN’T CATCH VERY WELL,POOR ROUTE RUNNER THAT GETS NO SEPARATION,AND DROPS TOO MANY BALLS….. I HONESTLY BELIEVE HORSTED AND JESSE JAMES ARE BETTER TE’S THAN KMET AND NOW IT’S FINALLY STARTING TO SHOW. 🐻👇🏿

    Thomas Gena

I can’t disagree with what you say. But other than the lack Kyle Pitts’ wheels, don’t you recognize these as “things a competent NFL TEs’ coach is paid to correct?”
Another reader gave Kmet some straight up killer advice: “Catch the damn ball go watch gronk tapes.” Clancy Barone should be on notice!

Chewy Ernesto

Stop dropping passes

Chewy Ernesto

Cole “you know” Kmet

Chewy Ernesto

He needs to improve his blocking

    Thomas Gena

He is. He’s a lot better this year at engaging and staying locked on. His major problem seems to be indecision. Pick a defender Cole, and just destroy him. Isn’t that what George Kittle does?

AntMas

One thing to live out the dream by just making the team. Another to become a legend in that dream…. ball out and become a legend for the Bears.

    Thomas Gena

Great advice. And not even a single mention of “the tape” or “the whys.”

    Electric

Too bad he has butter fingers with footballs at critical moments.

Matt Hix

Looks good at Notre Dame but there’s no NFL x factor. Obviously the NFL is very competitive and awesome he got there. I just don’t think he can pull off a starting TE position. A little fragile for the NFL

    Thomas Gena

I can’t disagree with your assessment. Despite prototype size, Cole Kmet has displayed very little power with the ball in his hands. His route running is anything but crisp, and he catches the ball.facing east-west more often than not.
The good news is that his blocking has improved, and he has shown.some strength, in those efforts.
Such shortcomings (particularly in a starter) reveal a lack of quality coaching of the Bears TEs. Clancy Barone needs to get his act together– and get Kmet to correct these and his other weaknesses.
This is only Kmet’s second season in the NFL, and the adjustments to speed and power can be difficult. But, concentration and effort originate with the player, on each snap. Barone’s job is to stay on Kmet until it all becomes instinctual.
Unfortunately. I have seen no evidence of even attempting to sharpen those pass pattern breaks. That’s not a good sign.

Block the right person. Catch the ball.
