Chargers sign ex-Rams quarterback Clemens

With former backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst signing a two-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, the San Diego Chargers moved quickly, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with Kellen Clemens, the team announced Thursday.
Clemens appeared in 10 games with nine starts in 2013 for St. Louis when starter Sam Bradford was lost for the season with an ACL injury. Clemens, who went 4-5 as a starter, completed nearly 59 percent of his passes for 1,673 yards and eight touchdowns with a 78.8 passer rating.
The University of Oregon product was a second-round selection by the New York Jets in the 2006 draft. Clemens, who turns 31 in June, spent his first five seasons in the NFL with the Jets, a year with the Houston Texans in 2011, and the past three years in St. Louis.
Also on Thursday, the Chargers re-signed Reggie Walker to two-year deal.
The Kansas State product was one of San Diego’s most versatile players on defense in 2013, seeing time at all four linebacker positions in defensive coordinator John Pagano’s 3-4 defensive front.
Walker, 27, signed with San Diego in September before the start of the regular season after being released by Arizona last May.
He started six games and played a total of 451 snaps defensively during the regular season, finishing with 36 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble.Covered Seahawks for Tacoma News Tribune for six seasons.
