Brooks rejoins Niners despite ‘severe’ cold

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — It’s 65 degrees without a cloud in the sky here as the San Francisco 49ers prepare to visit the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.

Yet, Pro Bowl linebacker Ahmad Brooks is dressed like he’s still playing in Green Bay nearly two weeks ago.

Fighting a “severe head cold” that kept him from practicing Wednesday, Brooks went through the 49ers’ walk-through practice Thursday morning and was on the field for practice later in the day. Brooks said he’s been dealing with the illness for a few days.

He was dressed for inclement weather, including a head wrap that covered his month. He was wearing layers and gloves to help him sweat.

“I’m feeling all right,” Brooks said between workouts. “Just got a head cold, a severe cold. I’m trying to sweat it out as much as possible and get ready for the game.”

Barring a major setback, Brooks should be able to play Sunday. He has 4.5 sacks in the 49ers’ two playoff wins.
