Brandon Staley Postgame Press Conference vs Browns | LA Chargers – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
Twigdale.the.3rd

they had no timeouts. he says he had confidence in his defense, but instead of giving it to their hands, he makes it harder for them

    Von Elgincolin

When i saw them going on 4&2 at 45yrds with 1:14…i was like if they dont get 1st down Browns win the game with a FG,luckily it missed…

    Manny King

@kurt Watson Thank you doctor Kurt for your diagnosis! How long have u been practicing? You could tell he was about to throw up all the way on your couch🤣🤣🤣

    CrimsonSoldier

@Hank Bunyon Agreed! that was just stupid. End of story

Justin B

I’m glad Big EK is looking good. The run game was great today. But Staley, what are you thinking on that call bro? We got lucky on this win. #boltup ⚡⚡⚡⚡

    Behind the Noob DM's Screen

he is not thinking, he cost us a playoff appearance last year and he is back to making bonehead decisions

    Rick Peterson

@Behind the Noob DM’s Screen He definitely made bad decisions last year but being dead last on 3rd down defense and 29th against the run? THAT WAS WHY WE DIDN’T MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!

    azma775

If we had Keenan it might haven been justified because Keenan is one if not the best at 3rd and 4th down but come on man

    Richard Noble

Yeah Ek has been stellar, the team fought hard, LUCKY win. Staley… you made a BONE HEAD call… you took an unnecessary risk WITH THE LEAD… they had ZERO time outs!

Moe K

COACH You gave every SINGLE CHARGER FAN a HEART ATTACK !! A confident leader would punt and let the defense do its Job vs a back up QB with 55 seconds and NO TIMEOUTS!!! THIS IS NOT GOOD FOOTBALL

    Richard Noble

As a 40 year fan… I AGREE, little boy Brandon is NOT a championship level coach. We left 3 points on the field early in the game with another 4th down bust. STOP playing “Madden” football with OUR players. We got LUCKY… Luck does NOT win championships!!!

Los C.

“I trust our defense.. we knew they had to throw the ball to beat us”. Coach, this is exactly why you should have punted. Every Charger fan who isn’t a coach or player understands this. I’m increasingly starting to feel our wins are in spite of you, not because of you. You’re giving me Lynn vibes man, both you and the season are still young, be better⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡

    Robert D.

@Christopher Rosvanis Will we DO too ! They don’t call it losing the Chargers way for NOTHING !

    Martin Tramil

“Lynn vibes,” no freaking way in hell Coach Lynn would have gone for it, no way. Find someone else to disparage, this anti-Lynn vibe is nonsensical, no pun intended.

    GetMade

We have never needed Sean Peyton so bad

    Rick Thogode

    Exactly!

    Ernesto Gastelum

@azma775 i was relieved we werent going for it when i saw Herbert doing the hard count only and thought we were punting after, but i was wrong

C.J. Cannon

I’ve supported this guy through every call he’s ever made, today made me change my mind. I want him gone

    azma775

I’ve been a Staley die hard . Can’t defend him anymore

    Dylan

That 4th down call was a classic bonehead move

    coleworld24

i said the same thing earlier. stood by him through every dumbass decision. this one and the call to leave herbert in the game late against the jags has done it. lets not forget his inability to make adjustments and not scheming to his player’s strengths. time to move on from him

    Richard Noble

40 year fan here… I AGREE!! Little Boy Brandon…If you’re not out to win then WHY ARE WE PAYING YOU??? Resign! This isn’t a video game where you “play the analytics”. In that situation you DONT RISK a short field. Make them go the distance!!!

    Luis Maldonado Jr

Coach is suppose to help the team , he put us in a position to lose the game . Not the first and won’t be the last

Huy Nguyen

I’m always been a pro-Staley guy but I’m sorry we can’t have a head coach like that

    Chaddy Daddy

@Mota Records when did Keenan call him out? Is there a video?

    Nolan

Amazing how many people became doubters after 1 play call that was a > +10 swing. Seems weird but it worked! In Staley we trust!

    coleworld24

@Johnson Liu at that point it makes a little more sense

    Richard Noble

40 year fan hear. AGREED, I was on his side until that. That’s NOT championship level coaching. If you’re not making winning decisions, then what are you being paid for? We got LUCKY!!!

    Mota Records

    @Chaddy Daddy Tweet lol

Happy Car Sales

As a former NFL player, Staley’s decision to go for it on 4th down, one of the worst in 50 years of football – I’m a lifelong charger fan, we 100% should have lost that game however we walked away with a gift win – he’s full of BS on postgame he had confidence in defense, amazing he truly thinks the public will buy that – gonna be another long Charger season with unhappy ending with arguably the best 3rd year QB in the history of the game……….AND not to mention, you’re going for it on a 50/50 ball, at least run a RPO w/#10 & back/tight-end out of the backfield to give you a higher % – you are playing the antilytic %, correct Brandon?

    azma775

    He’s lost me completely

    Robert Seaman

How bout you apply for HC . You got my vote.

    Richard Noble

40 year fan here. Yeah d!psh!t Brandon!!!! STOP “playing the analytics” and START using your head. ZERO reason to risk a short field at that point, ZERO.

    chauncey williams

I don’t think Staley has a clue of what he’s doing.

Larry Hawes

There comes a time in every coach’s career where you just have to say, “Yeah we blew that call and even if we had made it, it was still a terrible call. Won’t happen again.”

    Christopher Rosvanis

Guess who u guy’s were playing the Browns

    azma775

@Robert D. this comment is irrelevant to to my comment idk what you’re getting at

    Larry Cipriani

You would think. That would have been a crushing loss, after they played pretty well. The shine has come off Staley for me. If he screws this year up with this talent, Payton’s phone should ring.

    coleworld24

@Hector thats the problem… use common sense not some damn analytics. its not hard to figure out that if you dont convert( which they didnt) then your opponent, who is down two points, gets the ball in fg range so they can win the game.

    dayone dad

@coleworld24 he costs us the playoffs last year. If we make the playoffs and I say IF because I don’t trust him he has GOT TO BE GONE BY YEAR END

Mike21

That was a horrible, horrible, horrible decision to go for it on 4th and 2. Even if they converted I would have still said it was a terrible call. The Browns were killing the Chargers on the ground. Their passing game wasn’t terrible, but not nearly terrifying enough to think your defense couldn’t prevent them from driving 60 yards in 60 seconds with no timeouts. Unfathomable decision to put your team in that situation.

    Richard Noble

Risking a short field for the opponent WITH THE LEAD…. idiotic call.

Josephious Brosif

That late game call was unacceptable! You don’t get to hide from it because their kicker missed. We should’ve lost

    azma775

Absolutely. Barely feels like a win

    CrimsonSoldier

    Spot on

DLoading…

After this press conference I fear for more idiotic calls ! I expected responsibility and his excuse was “I had confidence on our defense”…. IF YOU HAD CONFIDENCE IN YOUR DEFENSE THAN PUNT THE DAMN BALLL!!!!!!!!!!!

    Richard Noble

exactly… have some humility and own your MISTAKE!!! Little boy Brandon is NOT a championship level coach. Hubris doesn’t win championships!!!

    Hiko

Exactly. He can call any play he wants but the reasoning needs to be consistent.
If he decides to go for 4th down then the reasoning needs to be “I had confidence in the offense to make the 1st down”, not “I had confidence in our defense”.

Aaron Adams

A dub is a dub. Lets see how we look when we got everyone back. Lets go into the tough tough stretch starting with SF 6-2

Tim meh

Imagine being this guys wife. He’s always right every stupid decision he makes is great.

Herby

Don’t get me wrong, that call on 4th down was completely idiotic on so many levels but the positives that we got out of this game from our rushing game especially shows me even with bad calls like that from coach Staley we got enough talent and fight in this team to win these games ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Bolt up!

Brad Makap

I have no faith in this guy. He will cost us a playoff spot with those 4th down calls

Mike Huynh

Agree with the general sentiment that the decision not to punt was definitely a bad call. But I’m tired of seeing the Chargers make the conservative play and then slowly die. It was more interesting than watching the Chargers getting a punt blocked (that used to be a Charger classic) and/or the Browns march down the field to score a touchdown/field goal at the last minute – Norv Turner style. It’s the opposite of watching Norv Turner bringing out the kicking unit in the redzone to tie the game with over 10 seconds left on the clock. I still have memories of Jake Delhomme torching the Charger’s defense at the end of a game that the Chargers should have won because the play calling was correct.

Luke Reyes

Prayers were answered on that missed FG — Let’s make sure games going forward don’t come down to this again! I doubt missing of a FG for a win from opposing team won’t be a trend! Let’s win undoubtedly going forward!

Andrew Rivas

I bought into the culture Staley has set out but his actions week and after week are hard to stand by, although we won this week, it feels like this was the final straw at least for me. Be better Staley or begone…

Ken Manoni

going for it on fourth down was the biggest bone head call I can ever remember seeing!!!

MerkinMuffly

I have no doubt we’ll miss the playoffs because of Staley, just like last year when this would have been a 12-4 team with an average coach at the helm.
