Tough loss. So sad to see our team decimated with injuries. Hopefully we can get healthy for the final stretch. #boltup

Immasafebet

I told a friend of mine at halftime that we would sit on the ball and be conservative as we had a big lead. Sure enough I was pissed to see we had only 42 yards of offense going into the 4th quarter

    Great Dane

    So its your fault

    Immasafebet

@Ulises Osuna our top two receivers are out. He didn’t have any receivers to throw to but make no mistake about it we tried to establish the run in the second half when clearly we can’t establish the run when can’t. Do what as working in the first half

    Ulises Osuna

@Immasafebet Agreed about the run in the second half, however it’s not like the pass was open either like in the first half, SF made adjustments on defense and started playing high safeties. Paired with elite pass rush, that is hard to beat no matter who you have at QB. If we get Keenan and/or Mike back next week, I think we can beat KC.

    Immasafebet

@Ulises Osuna I understand, but it just seems like it the same thing every week in the second half of games. I love our QB and I have faith in our coach, but I think all noise about him going for it on fourth down so much has gotten in his head and now he’s gun-shy about the team. I’d rather lose going out swinging than dying a slow death. F’ it throw caution to the wind open the offense up. If we have to throw it 50-60 times a game do it

    M_B

@Mark Matlock yea they threw it to Justin Jefferson, Gabe Davis and stephon diggs. You want herb to Chuck it to 5’9 deandre Hopkins and Josh Palmer. He threw a pass down the seam to Mckitty and dude dropped it. The difference is the other qbs actually trust their star receivers to come down with it kinda like herb does with mike will.

alexgurule

Great game despite all injuries.

Francisco Javier

Watching Herbert having no one open to throw is sad.

    Facts

    Zennofobic

they didn’t even try to use Ekeler in the passing game, he’s the only solid weapon Herbie still has

    J Eazy

@Zennofobic they tried, zone coverage on ekeler was tight. he couldnt get open, and if he did get the ball, defenders were right there to make the immediate tackle

    CHRIS DE GUZMAN

Im also sad that everett was hurt, he didnt play in the second half😢.. he was agood blocker and catch a ball.. mckitty was garbage, drop passes was always been the problem… bolt up⚡️⚡️

Spacetrooper

I have been critical of Staley but this game proved to me it’s not him. It’s Lombardi

    Guadalahonky

It’s the GM. Because little Johnny Spanos helps Tom Telesco make Charger picks. Chargers did not have the DTs, WRs, RBs beside Ekeler or TEs to compete last night.

    SwayLo The Don

Brooooo I’ve been saying it’s the OC. Idc if we don’t have Mike Williams and KA. We still have PROFESIONALS whose in the league for a reason no matter if they’re not the regular starter. I’m tired of the underneath passes. Justin has a freaking arm. Every single game is the same game plan which is easy to read for the opposing team so predictable. We have all the talent in the world from defense to offense and it’s still the same Ole Chargers BS. Jesus could play for us and we would still lose and struggle.smfh tired

    hitindahead

It’s on the HC to make the necessary changes within his staff. Lombardi has been a problem all year and we have yet to see improvements.

    P2

    Exactly.

    SwayLo The Don

@hitindahead definitely true. Bro I’ve been waiting for a change since the Chiefs game on TNF. That one bone headed play that cause a pick six. We haven’t been the same since the Chiefs game. Still traumatized

Zennofobic

I remember Mike Florio and Rich Eisen saying something to the effect of “something weird about just how many Charger players get injured” – I mean seriously, isn’t the common thread being the STRENGTH and CONDITIONING? The number of injuries are beyond ridiculous.

    Loanguy619

Fire the Strength and Conditioning Coach and get someone that will make them run sand dunes uphill to get more fit

    Brian Everett

    We suck

    Brian Everett

We’re going to get our asses kick next week

    Guadalahonky

Case in-point: Gerald Everett. He spent the second half on the sideline. When was the last time you saw TE Travis Kelce on the sidelines for the Chiefs for Patrick Mahomes?

    Randall Turner

Same staff as last year, when we went through the whole year relatively healthy. (#10 healthiest team in NFL, not terrible.) A big part of its just bad luck.

William Handy

You guys played a hell of a game. Despite all your injuries and all the odds, you showed some True damn grit. You going to be solid when you get some of your stars back out there. I actually consider us fortunate tonight.

    King Wolfy

@BDG Comics wdu mean worse?! Did you even watch the Superbowl game? Jimmy G cost us the win. He cost them the ring. You can be optimistic about it but that’s my take

    Franchise Fred

    The league is rigged. Bozo
    😂😂😂

    Randall Turner

@BDG Comics he’s clearly your limiting factor, though. Y’all do a good job protecting (with Trent Williams playing anyway, didn’t see your games with him out.) Your receivers aren’t bad either. Not saying Garoppolo is terrible, you CAN win with him like you say. But god you’d be a pain to play with a franchise QB. (Sorta are anyway.)

    BDG Comics

@King Wolfy I watched the game. KC D-line ate you guys for a 2nd half snack. Hard to blame Jimmy G there. He definitely lost his composure after all the line collapsed around him, which, again, hard to blame him for that. I guess he could have just stood in there, made better throws, and got completely demolished.. Either way, your take was “a QB away from a superbowl team” and my rebuttal was that Jimmy G was the QB on the superbowl roster. Granted, the NFC definitely didn’t have the 2022 Eagles or 2022 Vikings in it that year so we’ll see if the current roster is enough..

Good luck, hope to see you in the superbowl for a rematch.

    The Original Surfer Bob 🏄‍♂️

    Staley is crap. 💩

Tish Smith

You guys did good despite the number of injured players you have. Go Chargers!!!!

Zennofobic

I’m not as angry as I was earlier in the year… the team IS trying. I’m just too worn down to make much of a fuss… much like our team.

Today was Pretty

One of the worst playcalls I’ve ever seen was the jet sweep to DeAndre carter to an elite edge defenders side (nick bosa) torwards a practice squad right tackles first game. Abysmal … Speechless. Important drive and you run that play.

    Robert D.

@Dan Deitch No, I like DUMBARDI , much better & it’s NOT 1 of the 3 nick names i have given to him ! But he NEEDS to go , like last year ? Your name is for the team that WINS a Super Bowl , but , you GOT to make the play offs better then 1 in EVERY 5 years to do that ?

    Dan Deitch

Robert – Telasco doesn’t have a good track record either outside of KA, JS, and some players falling into his lap in the 1st. Telasco has had too many forgettable picks.

    Randall Turner

@Dan Deitch what? You said “use his legs”, that’s vague enough I need to infer your meaning. I, on the other hand, said “running QB”, which you chose to straw man as “running back” – doesn’t seem like I’m the one doing the misconstruing, does it?

If you don’t consider Herbert to be an elite QB, you may be more willing to let him take hits running the ball. If so, you’re clueless.

Herbert should “use his legs” to extend plays first and foremost. He does so, as well as run for occasional first downs, when he’s healthy. Because he’s injured, he can’t throw on the run as well and risks aggravating his ribs when tackled. (Or just getting his bell rung like last night.) He still extends plays, but unless he’s sure he can slide or get out of bounds he SHOULD NOT run.

    Dan Deitch

Randall – Herbert seemed to have plenty of opportunities to run with the ball when he was being pressured. I didn’t mean plays designed for him to run the ball.

    michael hiers

@Dan Deitch he actually played in the NFL playoffs 12 times and he would beat the chargers

Ethan Diaz

I firmly believe that Coach Staley is not the problem. Lombardi is ramming the offense into a brick wall. Defense and special teams have been solid and doing their job, but the offense isn’t doing them any favors with all these three and outs and dump offs. I know we will recover from this loss, but it worries me every time I see the offense on the field

    LEGION 13

@Brooks Marchant what are you talking about i see them get wide open all the time . They’re just not part of of the play call. I don’t know what you have been watching but it’s not the Chargers. This offence has digressed every game since lamebardi took it over even when we are healthy. No wonder the saints booted him they would have booted the head coach also but he retired before they could do it.

    Robert D.

@Brooks Marchant He [ JOE ] was STILL doing this , even with MOST of the WR in ! Gayton only had 4 catches in what game NO # 3 or # 4 ?

    Randall Turner

@LEGION 13 they’re not part of the play call? Open all the time? wtf! Check downs are not the first or second read, they happen because WR’s don’t get separation and Herbert’s under pressure. They’re covering our practice squad players with their CB1, and doubling because we have to chip their edge rushers going against our replacement tackles.

    The Original Surfer Bob 🏄‍♂️

    Staley is the problem.

G G

We fought till the end but these damn injuries are just too much to overcome. Proud of the gang tonight.

MJ10ROY

I cringed the very moment they hired Lombardi . They caught the 49ers off guard in that first series winging it deep but eventually we go back to the run stop , check down garbage time . 49ers made adjustments at half time and Lombardi as usual decided to play not to lose

MJ10ROY

Staley I changed my mind on you but Lombardi your killing this team .

TreverBeast

3:31 Thank you to the reporter for asking Coach Staley about that potential touchback from the 49ers punt.

SNEAKERFLAVORZ

Watching Chase Daniel’s come in for Herbert and looking completely unprepared – SCARED – and over throwing little check down throws to eklar really made me sick. Especially how this team is with injuries. That just showed that if Herbert goes down you better be ready to lose because Our backup isn’t prepared or capable of doing the smallest things. Coach next time he’s in HAND OFF THE BALL!! …. Please god don’t let him be in ever again.

    Josh Hendra

I was looking for a comment like this. Chase Daniels has finessed 10s of millions from the NFL. Not hating on the hustle but this dude is dog water. He damn near intercepted twice. I was thinking if anything happens to Herbo the season is over cause Daniels is terrible!

    Robert D.

Yes, that play {BAD ] hit , I think won the game ! And why Easton NEEDS to be the back up! At least HE can run & grand pa can not .

    Randall Turner

Daniels doesn’t have a running game to lean on, and the Niners were expecting handoffs. Throwing was probably the right decision. Problem is anybody that comes in for Herbert is going to be worse handling pressure, he’s nearly unsackable.

And again, Stick is injured, he wasn’t active.

    Josh Hendra

@Randall Turner granted Chase still can’t throw a basic screen or check down. He literally gets paid to warm the bench and wear a Charger uniform. 40 million career earnings for what lol good for nothing

Mike21

Joe Lombardi’s play calling has been horrendous all season. This offense literally disappears for long stretches every game and it puts the defense in a difficult position being on the field 80% of a quarter or half. The offense is so vanilla and predictable and even when they do something uncharacteristic it’s incredibly stupid, like that jet sweep directly to the biggest mismatch on the field with Nick Bosa and Foster Sarell

Art Bonilla

Herbert was nearly “decapitated” tonight trying to make some extra yards because the front office didn’t get him a receiver before the trading deadline. My question is this…WHAT IS THE TEAM GOING TO DO WHEN HERBERT GETS A SEASON ENDING INJURY?!!(we all witnessed how bad was the backup!)because he will at this rate! He has no one to throw to! and I think Lombardi is going to ruin Herbert with the horrible pedestrian antiquated plays he sends him!…Coach Staley, mark my words, he’s gonna get you fired too!

Original One

Gotta be strong minded to be a Chargers fan.
Very talented team regardless of injuries.
It was a winnable game no excuses for the low score 2nd half with good opportunities but lack luster play calling.
And Daniels is a waste of a roster spot looked worst than a Rookie.
TE Mckitty dropped passes.
Mack , Samuel, James played good.
Talesco is becoming a losing record GM.
⚡️🐴🏈

    Robert D.

Yes, Easton should be the back up & Daniels NEEDS to retire ! Can be some type of QB coach , that would be fine BUT , not a player ! Mckitty is a WASTE , too , he can’t catch & his run blocking is NOT working , either ?

Colorado Trucker

As a niner fan well played game you guys. I give you guys props for the way you guys played. I think the game could have been worse if we continued shooting our selves in the foot. Great game guys and go take care of the cheifs for us.
