Well one stat certainly matters.They are called points,and this team has way to much talent to be scoring 22 pts a game.That is where alot of the “critical” fans that state we need a new OC don’t fit into your rant.Secondly ,we’ve had games against teams even on this run where we let them stay in the game with the conservative approach that won’t fly against top tier teams.Giving up a 5.4 ypc against the run on the year is another “stat” that will get you beat.Getting smashed at home by Seattle and Jacksonville was inexcusable,regardless of injuries.Losing fourth quarter leads three times in two years to KC is inexcusable.Getting punched in the nose by a struggling raider team who lost to two day Baker a week later is inexcusable.Save the rah rah,”I’m a real fan” because we haven’t done squat except waste talent for Herbert’s entire career and most of Rivers career because of bad coaching.Sorry but I take offense when most “critical “fans actually care more then the casuals and newbs .As far as fantasy geekdom I agree with you.If it relates to on field issues then stats be an issue as I pointed out earlier.

What’s funny is I used to think like you, And you know what changed me ?

The 2005-06 season ! The bolts had the number one Offense and Defense, we broke records and our defense was insanely talented ! Martyball run game was unstoppable. Mary rebuilt that o-line to compliment LT, centered around HOF Jamal Williams.

And what happened in the playoffs ?

We lost ! And every real bolt fan that is old enough that remembered that game will tell you. Until a prime Brady stuck to his guns and picked apart our overly confidant DB’s he didn’t attack our skill he attacked there ego’s. Confusing them to be greedy and talk smack, “a culture of Rivers competitiveness” that Brady exploited. Resulting in a lot penalties on the team and a crucial INT from McCree that should have resulted in going down immediately and running out the clock. As Marty already explained if you get an INT go down, the entire sideline yelled go down ! Nope got stripped Brady scored for the lead and we couldn’t come back from a Kaeding 54yrd miss.

Brady went on to have one of the highest scoring offense ever in 07 and flawless regular season record ! That didn’t mean much because they lost in the Super Bowl to what ? The Giants and they didn’t have really good stats or record breaking crazy offense, they had a really good defense in the playoffs where it mattered most that was able to play as a team and come together to beat one of the greatest NFL teams ever.

I get fandom culture is different now, and people are more prone to being a fan of the player instead of the team. You nor I are coaches we are fans Fantasy changed a lot of the games perception as fantasy is big business. Its ok to be a bandwagoner we will embrace you to our team. But don’t forget your place, The Chargers organization and the players like money and run it as a business first. But don’t get it twisted don’t think that they would rather have record breaking stats than holding up that trophy and get immortalized that year.

Our record going into these playoffs is 0-0 nothing else matter but dubs ! The offense doesn’t have to score one point as long as our defense does it and vice versa. That’s not going to happen because in the playoffs this team will play different and I’m sure Staley and Lombardi has a plan. We lock the 5th seed no matter what, we rest our guys and fine tune things for what to come.
