On the Chiefs complacency, it’s worth noting that when playing playoff teams (Bills, Ravens, Bucs, Saints) Mahomes performed better in every category and had NO interceptions. The big question is whether after 20 days off, they can perform at the playoff level. Given Mahomes’ and Reid’s history, they probably will, but shaking off the rust could be an issue.

The last 3-4 weeks, the Browns have taken the history of the Browns since 1965 and rolled all the jinxes into one and messed with them. The Browns are 10-4 and playing the Jets. Beat the Jets, you end the drought, you are in the playoffs. The Jets are 2-12 and have one of the worst rush defenses in the league and a garbage offense. The Browns were coached badly, prepared badly, and lost to that Jets team. That was the “here they go, blowing it all again” moment. With the Steelers coming up and a “win to get in” situation, it was doubtful. Even with back-ups the Browns did not match up well. Still, the Browns got a lead, tried to choke it away again, but held on to get in. Jinx broken. The playoff drought is open, but now the whole “haven’t won in the playoffs since… haven’t won on the road since… haven’t won in Pittsburgh since…” all got rolled through the media. Then the Virus issues came up and players and coaches are out. So, once again, here goes the Browns jinxes cutting them down again. The snap for a touchdown, then a 3-out, then a Browns score, it is 14-0 with 5 minutes gone in the game; 28-0 at the quarter. No excitement because, we saw the Browns up 35-7 on the Titans and need to recover an onside kick to not lose. And, YES, the defensive coaches went soft way too soon and allowed Pittsburgh get back in the game. at 35-23, the mind is set “Yep, the Browns choked again.” The coaches will try to run the clock and keep punting and the defense will give it up. Only half right. Van Pelt re-opened the offense and the Browns marched down and scored to put it back up. SO, BAM… all those jinxes dealt with. Lastly, Nathan Zegura, stop defending Joe Woods. he is an awful defensive coach, and his adjustments have lost and nearly lost games. Stop defending him. Woods was not the defensive coordinator in San Fran and it wasn’t his defense. His “cover two” is a bogus stat. It is not what cover scheme you are in, it is how soft you have the guys play. You can be in soft cover 2 or tight cover two. You can be in a squeeze Cover 2 or a wide Cover 2. We had a good defense in the first quarter, then Woods backed off into a mix of soft and wide cover 2 and cover1/3 and allowed Pittsburgh to get in a flow. It was Van Pelt re-opening the offense after going conservative that was the key play, NOT Woods’ poor coaching.
