Some Bears fans are sour about Robert Quinn and Roquan Smith but converting third downs is also good defense, i.e., it keeps the opponent’s offense off the field. It’s tough for the opponent’s offense to score if they’re on the benches. That’s good defense.
Sustaining drives: A great running game also eats-up the clock and fosters play-action successes. Another tall, physical receiver that can come-up with contested catches, helps sustain drives. That’s crucial closing-out a fourth quarter lead.
It’ll be interesting to compare the number of Bear punts in the first half of the season to the number of Bear punts in the second half of the season.
Don’t ask me how the Bears defense is going to stop a high-powered offense without Quinn and Smith. Keep in mind, they weren’t doing too good against high-powered offenses with Quinn and Smith in the lineup. Mabe next year? This year or next year, there has to be some luck on defense finding lightning in a bottle.
new leaders will show up on defense, bears never had a problem developing defensive leaders. i’m actually more excited to see the offense than the D for the first time in a long time

Fields has been playing because he’s playing with more confidence and if he starts to trust himself his number will continue to grow

I am skeptical of Ryan Poles. You don’t let your best player go in their prime. Poles is stingy and naive with money. He simply he did not like Roquan Smith, so he demoralized a defense that just gave up 49 points. Other GM’s will look at Poles as as easy to deal with guy…inexperienced to what other GM’s are really doing…jury’s out for Ryan Poles…I will give him 3 years to build playoff contender…a 50 /50 chance to me.
We got 49 dropped on us with Ro, might as well ship him off for a pick since we was going to walk after this season for nothing but egg on the face anyway
