Baker Mayfield: “We want to be better”

Baker just comes off as that guy who lives down the street that you say hi to when you get your mail. Such a down to earth presence. Carries himself well too.

When people get confused why Browns fans take Baker’s side, just think about this: Browns fans endured years of god awful QB play and losing seasons. It comes to a T when they go 1-31 over 2 seasons. They draft this kid Baker Mayfield, who damn near everyone thought was a reach. Baker comes in on a Thursday night game and immediately changed the franchise, leading a comeback for the first win in years. Baker went on to throw for the rookie passing touchdown record in 13.5 games, despite his Head Coach and OC being fired midway through the season. The Browns trade for Odell, and hire Freddie Kitchens, Baker struggles, Odell struggles (was one of the league leaders in drop rate that season) and the Browns stink again. Baker’s struggles continue into the next season, until Odell tears his ACL on a Baker overthrow. After that play, Baker went 22-23 with 5 touchdowns (the one incompletion was a spike) and led a game winning touchdown drive with incredible throw after incredible throw. He finished the season graded as a top 5 QB per PFF, led the Browns to their first playoff berth since 2002, and then won the playoff game against our biggest rivals (who historically have dominated since the Browns return) in their stadium. Baker has not played well with Odell, and Odell has not played well with Baker. I don’t think either one is a bad player, they just don’t work together, for whatever reason. Real Browns fans take Baker’s side because time and time again, he has proven to be the best QB the Browns have had in 30 years, and has brought us even the slightest bit of success. In Baker’s career, he is 12-15 in games with Odell Beckham, 37 TDs and 29 Picks. Without Odell, he is 16-10 with 44 TDs and 17 Picks. We take Baker’s side because he has been a damn good QB without Odell, and a damn good QB is something the Browns haven’t had in a very long time. It’s a lot easier to find a good receiver than it is to find a good QB, and there is a lot more attachment to Baker than there is to Odell, because even if Odell is an objectively better football player than Baker (which he is), he hasn’t brought the Browns any success, Baker has. Rant over.

This was an excellent presser by Baker.. We are Browns fans and we must support all of our players who want to be here.. Odell seems like he doesn’t want to be here so ✌️ out to him… Football is the ultimate TEAM game and you don’t need any negative energy from just 1 player… Screw anybody that doesn’t want to be here and help win.

Say what you want about Odell deserving the ball – the baker slander is so outrageous. For him to stand there and take it and respond this way is admirable. Not many starting QBs would act this way.

i can’t even imagine how this made baker feel, he’s truly been taking blow after blow in stride. Gonna be there Sunday. Go browns….

I don’t think for a minute Odell is the reason we’re losing games. It takes a village. Now if you were to ask me if we’re wasting cap space on someone who just truly seems to be unhappy no matter what and wiping tears with Benjamin’s? Absolutely. The Baker/Odell project is over and one is staying. Time to develop DPJ and draft a wide out.

I’m going to be honest…. just looking at his posture, the tone is his voice, and just the overall energy he’s giving off, it seems to me that he’s relieved.
Stats don’t lie, baker is a different QB with Odell not even in the game plan. Look out

I love the way Baker handled this difficult subject and onslaught of media questions. This is what leadership looks and sounds like. Way to go Bake, now lets rally the team and go knock the crap outta Cincinnati!!

Not a Browns fan but huge respect to Baker for taking that crap in stride. OBJ just wants out because he’s underperformed since he ARRIVED in Cleveland. Hell, it seems like the man has barely even PLAYED for you guys, he’s been hurt so often.

The media always comes after Baker . It’s like people want to see this dude fail or something. Deserves a lot more respect than he gets and this is coming from a Ravens fan. As a Ravens fan I can think of a lot of different teams I rather have the Ravens play than Baker and Cleveland. The team takes us to the brink every time. This guy gets less respect than Lamar does and that’s saying something. Plus I love underdog’s. The reason why I love Lamar too. Heads up Cleveland y’all got a baller. Real recognize real. !

We love you Baker. You are the epitome of Cleveland. We love your guts and never say die, never quit, never give up attitude. You are our quarterback, no matter what external voices think or say. YOU are the one who instilled this winning expectation/culture in the team, whether you are the best player on the field each day or not. We’ve got you buddy, we’re in your corner. 🙂
