I’m still a Mariota fan and I said the only time I wanted to see Ridder was if Mariota was injured or our playoff hopes were done. We technically are still in the hunt but I’m ready to see Ridder now if coach thinks he’s ready to start.

@J preseason Ridder playing 2nd string to players that didn’t even make their respective team isnt the same. This line is just as good as what Ryan had most I said most not all of his career as a Falcon still threw over 4000 yards every season as a non mobile qb. Mariota is more accurate in a scramble or bootleg vs a clean pocket. In no way am I suggesting Ridder is the guy, however being a 3rd round pick and Marcus not being the guy and on a short contract the qb situation needs a resolution by end of next season. Need to see what Ridder has incase a rookie needs development next season. Id imagine a upgrade in a qb coach is needed as well.
@Chris Hill Unless they re negotiate the contract, to keep Mariota would cost double next year. Seeing that, I would say you are right. Ridder getting 1 million a year right now, might not be worth starting him too early and wanting more money or getting hurt. I’m just trying to see it from Arthur Smith’s point of view lol I think he just truly believes in Mariota and wants to give him every chance he can to do it in Atlanta. Kind of selfish but hey that’s loyalty at least

Smith looks like he is relieved in a way. This whole year he has struggled to find a true identity and knows what will work for this team. We have seen this team lose in every way possible this year. This team has also fought in all games. The thing that is missing is a pass rush, safeties, QB, and overall game plan. Very fixable things if addressed. We all wanted a change, even if we win or lose these next games. The QB change should have happened after the Panthers Thursday Night loss.

I don’t think he look relieved. He look like he made a mistake on something he card about. And thats Marcus. I think he feels like Marcus is his son and he has to protect him. He know he’s not good enough but he keep giving him chances because he care about him. Look at that Corner back they released off the one play he messed up on in that 1st panthers game. He didn’t even get a 2nd chance. But Marcus gets 8 or more. We don’t know. Maybe he still will be the starter coming out of the bye. I gave up on hoping ridder get in the game, I gave up on caring if they win or lose. And even now I give up on starting Paterson on my fantasy league. Thinking oh all we do is run the ball. We’re good on safeties. Backups yeah but the starters are fine. Overall you nailed it though. AFter PItts got hurt it was over officially. Ridder won’t be able to do much with the lack of weapons and bad OL pass blocking.

Hey, look we held them to only 3pts. No, you held them to 19 points on 5 consecutive drives. That’s as good as a TD every other drive. But they don’t need to score TD’s because BDB allows them frequent and easy access to the FG range and redzone.
Bend don’t break is not a defense. It’s capitulation. They go into the game with an already defeated mindset that they can’t stop the opponent.
Mariota is not the problem. Not saying he and the offense couldn’t stand to do better. But the defense and their BDB strategy is by far the biggest issue the Falcons have. The elephant in the room.
We need to give ridder a chance and chance play calling duties we need to feel fresh coming out of this bye cause we need to save this season
This team is go enough to win. We just lost to a rookie Quarterback. The idea of bringing Mariota in and getting rid of Ryan was Mariotas’ mobility. For the second week in a row he has thrown interceptions that decided the game. If you’re not going to play Ridder why was he drafted? Mariota is a nice guy, I get it. But he is not a starting quarterback in the NFL. He’s too inconsistent. Maybe it’s his confidence. Maybe it’s his inability to understand defenses but he is not going to get any better than he is right now. Let Ridder play!!!

And we didn’t bring in Mariota for mobility to get rid of Ryan. That isn’t factual. We brought in Mariota AFTER Ryan wanted a trade after the Watson fiasco. Mariota is a bust. AS wanted Ryan for the 22′ season period. Things ended up changing…
Ridder is going to get his shot. I think it was always the plan to let him start after the bye. This team has been more competitive than any of us expected and the huge number of one-score games have really accentuated Mariota’s flaws in the passing game. He is a good spot starter and great backup. He just isn’t consistent at throwing catchable balls and that’s why his career has gone the way it has.

I want to see what Ridder can do. I’ve seen Mariota make some throws that literally make me wince or shake my head. We still playoff alive but it’s now or never
Splitting reps could be interesting, give them both a chance. Ridder could have 10 years of football in him though so I think they want to protect that investment.
Props to AS for not demoting Mariota on the day his son is born.
2nd in the league in penalties is Drew Dalman but Arthur Smith thinks he’s great. Sometimes it’s just the basic lack of accurate decision making. He probably thinks Feleipe Franks is great also. Both stalled more drives last week than any other two players. So if those two continue and the errors do too then your problem ultimately is Arthur Smith.

I have to agree with last comment on Ridder . I wanted that 10 games ago but we don’t make the decisions….however just the thought of how well our running game is and our receivers , who to me are some of the fastest and most dynamic players in this game and with ( I apologize) another QB( Ridder) behind center , winning games will come …well it’s just that simple …and it’s Football so …there is that
You can tell the coach really wanted to prove people wrong about Mariota but business is business. Players draw in fans more than teams these days so hopefully he will give the fans what they want with Ridder
