Brody Dawson

No award was more deserved, what an amazing story

Sports 311

This goes to show all of us that when we fall down, we get right back up. Alex Smith fought off the excuses and got right back onto the field. What an inspiration!!

Zach Gonzales

Crazy. He deserves the trophy named after him.

    Alex Smith

    Thanks

    _NoconherE_

@Alex Smith Ayo it’s Alex Smith!

    Trxly

    @_NoconherE_ it’s a fake duh

    That One Guy

@Trxly it was a joke lol

thelegendsqb1

He has the loudest cadence I’ve heard from a QB.

BE C

True. This was a life-threatening injury, not just a career threatening one. I’m not a Washington team fan, but when I saw him take the field for the first time on TV, I clapped for him.

    Cheesus Cheese

    Very Hot stop

    Christopher Estep

@Very Hot And who better – and NOT because they played for the same team. As Joe points out – SAME injury. And Joe did NOT come back. In fact, in Alex’ case, it was worse – MUCH worse – it darn near KILLED him – LITERALLY. It is because of the Alex Smiths. The Ron Riveras. Why *I* was able to fight off cancer three times in three years. They are MY inspiration. It SHOULD be henceforth the Alex Smith Comeback Player of the Year Award. Fighting off injury AND the Grim Reaper? And going back onto the field of battle once again? Spartans have NOTHING on Alex.

    Alex Smith

    Thanks

Snakemaxswell

Its amazing that he has a leg, I watched the documentary on his injury. Literally like half of his calf is gone.

8installYT

This man is amazing
he went from dont cut off my leg to leading washington to the playoffs

    noah gordon

@ightBet141 It was from the surgery it didn’t heal well and it caused it I believe they stated that during his documentary they did

    ightBet141

@noah gordon oh ok, thank you. Good thing everything came out good with the man

    noah gordon

@ightBet141 No problem but the doctors fully don’t know what was the start of the infection but they are confident it was surgery

    8installYT

    @Christopher Estep pure greatness

    Rom

@ightBet141 the injury since the field was wet & muddy, he had bones sticking through his skin

MadMan147852

If this story doesn’t tell you to never give up, i don’t know what will. I’m glad he got it, they should change the name of the award to the Alex Smith

Panthers Pride

This award should be called the “Alex Smith Comeback Player Of The Year Award”

    @Alex Smith lmao

MinePlay 512

It’s one of the best stories ever. Smith was almost forced to retire, but instead, he recovered day by day, worked hard and finally made his return to football.

Kaleb Miller

How tf could anyone dislike this?

    ItzCle4ve

It’s Big Ben fans and it’s some JJ watt fans

    Alex Smith

    edmasamo

I almost did when I saw the wife – she pretty, but that looked like an auditioning tape, not from the heart

Koll Malme

He should be comeback person of the earth

    Murph Dog

Loafonatior

This award should be called “The Alex Smith award”

    Alex Smith

    Wassup

    inst4rmin.x4_onYT

@B- Head also a darn good story.. But I don’t know about “better”

    B- Head

@inst4rmin.x4_onYT how is overcoming hodgkins lymphoma while still exercising and coming back to play an all pro season not a better comeback story ?

    Panthers Pride

    @NinjaDilz
Alex Smith nearly died from the flash eating disease after the injury and only had the choices of amputation or playing for Dan Snyder…. Alex Smith had a better comeback story but Eric Berry is also an amazing one.

    NinjaDilz

@Panthers Pride ok thanks for fixing my mistake

Chollingsworth

alright “Alex smith comeback award” sounds about right.

NFL Baller

I hope they rename it to the Alex Smith player of the year award and if they do the trophy should of him walking on the field when he was pronounced the starter

Tenormic3

One of the most inspirational moments in sports history. The NFL needs to rename it as ‘The Alex Smith Comeback player of the year award’

    Mobile Juju

    That’s great

    Shawn Coley Jr.

    I wouldn’t be against that

    Kevin Perry

    Won’t happen

    Nahim Rene

    Fr

Shre Reddy

It’s insane to me that there was someone who voted for Ben Roethlisberger for this award.

    Johnny Manziel isn't a bust

@Sean Sheekey I want to know what you are he had a 34.9 qbr 6tds to 8 int it was a awful season

    TwoTimesJ

@Johnny Manziel isn’t a bust I want what u smoking rn lol last time I checked Alex Smith beat Big Ben this year and Big Ben didn’t have have an infection in his arm and almost lose it and almost died

    run 4 Rubles

    Such a troll lmao

MrBadAim

He helped KC turn around their franchise. Alex is a born winner. Will always be a Chiefs team member for life!

    The OG

He did not become a winner until 2011, but he taught Mahomes to be a qb and I cannot credit this man enough for the Chiefs success. When the man retires, he should become a qb coach. That is how good of a mentor he is.

    MrBadAim

@The OG he didn’t teach Mahomes how to be a quarterback, Mahomes learned through Smith how to be a professional and how to approach the job. Yes the early part of his NFL career was rocky, much of which was out of his control. He fought back with success, regardless the early career slide, he was always a winner in all levels of football. That is what I meant by a born winner.

    The OG

@MrBadAim teaching, while the learning is direct or indirect, is still teaching. And if the best case scenario happened for Alex Smith, he would not have gotten injured in 12 and the 9ers would have won that Super Bowl while Kansas City would probably be in the dumps. And what I mean by he did not become a winner until 11 was that his play was erratic from 05-10 and then became good in 11. After all, people were calling him a bust before the 2011 season. But then he developed a winning attitude and while his play from 2020 was not good, he elevated his teammates to the point that a previously 2-7 team became 7-9.

Florida Jordan

I mean this is just such an incredible and inspiring story and just like everyone else I think it would be a damn shame if the NFL doesn’t rename it the “Alex Smith Comeback Player of the Year.”
