@David Leboeuf if the Chargers beat the Raiders and are the final WC spot at (7) they play at the Chiefs (2). The Chargers *almost* beat the Chiefs on OT. Imagine if the the WC was Chargers (7) at Chiefs (2) , Colts (6) at Bills (3) and Patriots (5) at Bengals (4). If the Chargers, Colts and Patriots all won, and yes, I k ow that’s like a 100-1 chance, but then the second round in AFC would be Chargers (7) at Titans and Colts (6) at Patriots (5). The tv networks works hate that, they want a Chiefs-Titans heavyweight battle for the AFCCG. But at least in that scenario the Patriots don’t face either the Chiefs or the Titans in the 2nd round. Probably the Patriots either barely win at Cincinnati or Buffalo and then lose at KC, or just lose the WC.

If they win at least one play off game this season with rookie QB…it was a good season.
Next season, they will be expected to contend for the AFC title
@Rodino Wright if they win the WC as the 5 seed, in all likelihood the Chiefs at 2 will have beat the winner of the Chargers /Raiders game, and the Bengals will have beaten the Colts, Which means the 2nd round of the playoffs will be Patriots (5) at Titans (1) and Bengals (3) at Chiefs (2). Beating the Titans in Tennessee, with Henry back at RB at full strength, will be impossible, imo. The only way the Pats avoid the Titans in the 2nd round is for the Colts to beat the Bengals. Then it’s Colts (6) at Titans , and the Patriots (5) at the Chiefs. Now let’s say the Chargers beat the Chiefs in the WC, I mean they did almost beat them in OT in regular season. Then the seeding would be Chargers (7) at Titans and Colts (6) at Patriots (5),. But realistically, even if the Pats beat the WC and 2nd round opponent, they will face Titans the next game and Derick Henry will run for 200 yards .
Don’t quote me on this, but I think a Raiders win against the Chargers and a Colts or Steelers win would put the pats at #7; any other scenario would keep them at 5 or 6

@Bully Maguire that Damien Harris fumble cost the win vs the Dolphins in week one, if they win that game, Pats are 11-5 and if they win final game vs Dolphins they finish 12-5 and 1st in the AFC. Losing that game and especially the Colts game where they couldn’t tackle Taylor just killed their chances of winning the AFC

@Speedyreedy1218 if the Bengals *wanted* the 3 seed, they would play Burrow vs the Browns. The Chiefs really want the 2 seed and will play all their starters against the Broncos. The only conclusion I can come to is the Bengals are going to tank the game so they face the Patriots instead of the Colts. If the Chargers are the WC opponent for the Chiefs in a (7) at (2) matchup and the Chargers somehow win, the Chiefs will regret not tanking their game. But realistically, after the WC the Titans will be (1) and the Chiefs (2) and whoever won the 2 other WC games will face them.
Playing against the Bills would be an easier team to beat rather than going to Cincy!
@Gregory Ryan that’s out of the Patriots hands, if the Bills win and the Bengals lose the game is in Cincy. This is why you always want to control your own destiny, so you don’t have to rely on the Browns to beat the Bengals🙄🙄

The Patriots CAN finish in the #4 seed if the Bills lose, the Bengals win and the Pats tie.
Any one of the seven spots is possible.
(I bet no one will notice this comment or try to verify whether I’m right or not. Just one more example of me figuring something out that most people don’t realize and then discovering that no one cares.)
As a Pats fan I honestly hope they don’t get the bye. After their bye week a month ago, they then went on to lose two games in a row…somehow it seemed to have thrown off their rhythm. They just came off of a super strong win last week – better to keep the momentum going into the playoffs without a break.

Seeing how poorly the Patriots faired against two playoff teams , in games that could have significantly improved their chances of getting to the SB, I have very little hope of them being anything other than a one and done team in the playoffs.
