Well, Favre played with a vastly different set of rules. The NFL was much more physical when players could really tackle without impunity. Remember when full backs were a factor?

Much of Favre’s career, defenses could knock him down, which is now a penalty. Pass interference calls were not called the same way as they are now. In the 1990’s when Favre played, defensive backs could jam receivers before five yards. The rules changed to protect receivers now.

That is no longer permissible. The rules have changed, drastically to protect QB’s, the game is much softer now, and furthermore, they also allow wide receivers to run wild. No more hitting over the middle. Defensive players are constantly flagged for ticky-tack fouls. If Rodgers had played during Favre’s era… He would likely have been knocked out of the league in a few seasons or so.

Regarding throwing the football? It’s difficult to challenge what Rodgers has accomplished. He might be the greatest this reporter has ever seen, but that will always up for debate. Favre was the most talented QB I ever saw, in terms of physicality and most intangibles. Did he make too many mistakes? Of course. Rodgers learned a great deal from Brett Favre. He also learned what “not” to do, which is be too much of a gun-slinger. Different generation, folks. Different rules, different culture. Favre is an all-time great. Rodgers is an all-time great. For Aaron Rodgers, the script is still incomplete.
