If he could just get his tackling skills right.

Ron Edward

Don’t think we would’ve got this dude if CJ was still here. So far, he’s looking like an upgrade at middle linebacker.

I still can’t believe he was in with the #28 pick! I really didn’t think he’d escape the first twenty picks, honestly, with Devin White and Devin Bush each going in the top 10 last year. As the game becomes more pass-oriented, the value of players like Patrick Queen who can hit, roam, cover and blitz will only increase.

Especially as QBs like Lamar and Kyler Murray become more common. The way the NFL used to be, there was no middle-class of athletic QBs. There were very few who could be considered a threat to run pre-2010, and all could be counted on one hand. Now, you have guys like Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Josh Allen, and even Joe Burrow, testing defenses with their feet.

In today’s NFL, you just can’t take the mid-level of your defense for granted anymore. If you don’t have the guy (or guys) to make sure that the tight-end has an answer, or the running-back in the flats, or the QB getting to the outside, then you are going to hemorrhage points. And teams know this, which is why we do see a team like Pittsburgh trade up so high to take a linebacker under 5’11” with the 10th pick in the draft. All the more crazy (IMO) that teams let Baltimore have Queen at #28. He’s a freak!
