This was a surprise, but i think Irv Smiths latest injury (again) forced the Viking front office to make the deal. Smith was put on IR, and will be out 8 to 10 weeks. And he might be finished in MN.
Having 400 yards in 8 weeks is pretty solid for a tight end. He should be able to get a lot more space on routes in Minnesota with Jefferson and thielen spreading out secondarys compared to Detroit. He could be a pretty decent fit for an offense that is trying to stay consistent throughout all 4 quarters every week.
