The 1950s, a time when Bobby Layne and Joe Schmidt were winning titles on the gridiron while Gordy and Ted were skating cups at Olympia. A golden age for the city in a lot ways. It was a bit before my time though. My first real memory of Joe Schmidt was that 1970 team. Everyone was pumped when they went to Dallas to begin what we all thought was a run to the Super Bowl. Then that 5-0 loss burst the balloon so hard the wind is still felt today. My first taste of the unique pain that comes with being a Lions fan. Oh well, it was still a fun time. Nice to see those clips of the team back when they were something, even if it was during a time when everyone loved Lucy and liked Ike. Cest-la-vie.

Incredible video! I wish I could have seen the glory years with my own eyes. I can only hold onto hope that our own glory years await us in the near future! Go Lions, and thank you Joe Schmidt!! 🦁

Played when the Fords did not own the team and won championships. After the Fords bought the team no more championships. I remember Joe as the Lions head coach.

What a class act. No drama. No braggadocio. Just discipline, toughness and a great leader. Based on the Lions current needs, what would they give to have a Joe Schmidt now?
