Are the Seahawks Better Off Without Russell Wilson? – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
Thomas Miller

Before 2020 no, but his later years were problematic. From this point forward the Seahawks are absolutely better off without him.

    Minstrel Blood

For 45 million and all the draft picks.

Rick

Russel Wilson plays off-the-charts when he has a strong supporting cast, but the Seahawks couldn’t afford to give him that anymore. With Geno, the Hawks can afford to bring on better talent at more positions and create a more powerful, more balanced team.

    Beau

Is that why the hawks are still trash on defense?

    Rick

@Beau At least now they have some draft picks and possibilities of getting better.

    XxnateeexX

@Beau we are but we got 2 rookie cbs who have actually been very good and we’ve finally been able to build a oline both of our rookie tackles have been dawgs

    XxnateeexX

@Beau and overall the team is definitely better then last year minus Russ and Bobby.but our corners are better our oline is better r rb room is better are te room is better and we got alot more picks for next year

Eh Ha

I like my QB to be able to see and throw to the middle of the field. I also like my QB to stay in a clean pocket and avoid the temptation to roll out of the pocket just to get a pass off.

Wilson made it incredibly difficult for offensive linemen to block for him.

    CloutCollecter

    @Eh Ha gomd

    Nwickyer

In about 6-7 weeks ur gonna be like, we want RW back 🤣. Geno isn’t gonna play this well throughout the entire season

    Eh Ha

    @Nwickyer i don’t care about that.

    Andi S

That’s true, there’s reason team doesn’t like to draft “short” QB, there’s physic element you can’t ignore. Those tall OL/DL, he simply can’t see and throw without being blocked. If you throw high, it will be slow and get intercepted by LB. If you throw medium, it will be blocked by DL. That’s why he relied on long deep pass but that take forever to develop and he’s running out of time everytime. He struggle in Denver as well.

Lolo

in terms of the future yes. They finally have the ability to get premium talent without a QB contract weighing on the roster.

Arsino

It doesn’t matter if Russ is as good as everyone wants him to be. He WANTED to go, he WANTED to much money and the compensation is good big, it was the right decision to let him go.

Venni Venomous

A big part of why Geno is doing good (and a big reason why Russ was frustrated) is because of the offensive line. Do the Seahawks still have Cross and Lucas if they would have kept Russ?

    MeTV

They couldn’t get players Cross and Lucas if they still had Russ, which is one of the reasons why the traded him.

cholhwa

The Seahawks are better off without Russell Wilson. Russell bought into Pete Caroll’s system
early in his career but he bought into “Let Russ Cook” theme in later his career. The Seahawks
has not changed their head coach. If those two are in different offensive philosophies, it just
cannot work out for the team. Geno Smith is operating Pete Caroll’s system at full strength right now.

    Andi S

Geno know he has only this year to prove himself in NFL so he give everything he got. If he is doing bad, game over, he will be replace and never see NFL forever.. If he’s doing great, Seahawk might let him compete and play another year next year until rookie QB is ready and he can ask for better pay as back up QB.

carrite

I live in the PNW and am among the unfortunates force-fed 17 Seahawks games by the networks. Last year, watching the Hawks with Russ was TORTURE. This year, so far, it has been exciting and fun. I can’t say whether the 2022 Seahawks are better or worse without the tubby self-promoter, but I can say it is an ENORMOUS relief that somebody else is on the hook for a quarter billion dollars paying for Russ’s golden years…

    NBA Hive

Couldn’t agree with this more. The last few seasons of Russ have been mentally draining, and I’m just happy we were able to move on at the perfect time, and maximize his trade value. Geno runs Waldron’s offense better than Russ imo. Russ wasn’t fun to watch, nothing but deep balls or 3 and outs. We went from being the worst 3rd down team in the league to the best with Geno. The broncos are ranked 23rd. Russ looks like the exact same player with the same limitations, but now he’s getting paid $48M a season up to age 40 lol. Good luck Denver, thanks for the picks

    Minstrel Blood

I’d rather lose games than watch Russell Wilson hold the ball until he gets sacked.

    AR9Legend

I watch football to be happy win or lose seeing my team at least try. Last year watching the seahawks I literally caught myself getting angry at how stupid everything regarding the hawks were that season and stopped watching just to get the some extra random negativity out of my life. This season even though we arent title contenders or anything I still feel a million times better watching too and do not get angry at the stupid stuff like last year. Totally different and fun feel to watch compared to the last.

Im just really happy for Geno. Hes a solid dude who hasnt worked out in 10 yrs, he was the #1 QB in a draft (even though my bills took EJ manual first) but at least hes finaly having some success. Good for him

    Seven

    Sorry, EJ who ?

Rob Hinson

Hawk fans are more concerned with their defense. But keep batting this around.

Venni Venomous

“The question isn’t, ‘Is Geno Smith better than Russell Wilson…’”
THAT PART.

    Nwickyer

Rn he is, but Russell will be better later on in the szn

    T M

    @Nwickyer no, he won’t

Jeff Murray

Russ could have been Largent or Edgar Martinez. He chose to be Arod.

    Zachary Bergman

Hell, or even Griffey. He left, we still got big love for him, although not the same as having the freeway exit to get to the stadiums named after you, but in the same manner of reverence

Joker Productions

Dude is a bust and a half. The Raider defense made him look like a third string freshman at a state college.

Aneesh Anand

I say yes, not because of the play but because of the pieces we got back in the fact that we don’t have to pay Wilson all that money.

Dylan

We would be amazing with a good defense, no matter who is QB 🙂 Geno is playing great, young defense will take years to get us anywhere. Hopeful and happy to be without a malcontent in Russ

Nikola Tesla

I’m a huge Seahawks fan and loved watching Russell play. That said the obvious answer is YES. Russell Wilson is still probably the best deep ball passer in the league. But there is no question he is not the magic man in the backfield he use to be. His rushing yards have declined. He gets sacked more than ever. Finally, it’s the other factors. His exorbitant salary prevents whatever team he is on from paying the other pieces of the puzzle. His selfish attitude ruins the team.

Is Geno better? I doubt we can say that despite the numbers at the moment. But a 2022 Geno Smith at 4 million a year makes a lot more sense than a 2022 Russell Wilson at 40 million a year.

Souporbeans Funhouse

Russell Willson didn’t “take” the Seahawks to any Souper Bowls, Marshawn and the Defense took them there. They won the first one 100% because of the defense and they lost the second 100% because of Russell

Pranit

Yes. Because of him we upgraded our o-line and improved parts of our defense. We need more improvements but this was a good start.

Jaden Guillory

I’d say in Russell’s recent years, it became a great move on Seattle’s part. Russ seems to be regressing, I wouldn’t say he is out of it yet but it’s still to early to say that. Now anytime before 2020 no. Russell Wilson was amazing with Seattle. But as of right now, it could be due to change, but right now Seattle made a good move. Like they knew what they were doing
