@Casey Martz it does a lot actually a lot of big named quarter backs were under a veteran for a year before they started for example, tom Brady , pat mahomes, lamar Jackson, it teaches them things that they don’t know and probably would never know if they didn’t start under a veteran qb

@Sirius exactly…no one is going to be hard pressed about their made up stories and scenarios..especially when it comes to one of the most well run franchises in sports…the only reason this is a story is because the media feels disrespected when coaches or players don’t disclose the information they want them to lol

I wanted Winston, I actually still wouldn’t mind him at all as a backup, better than Mason lol. About Pickett, I never expected him to drop this far. Honestly I thought he would have been drafted either by the Panthers or the Saints.

If the Steelers REALLY want to be bold, don’t start any QB Week 1. Send Najeh Harris out in the Wildcat for the first play, and then after that send out either Pickett or Trubisky. Play them both during the game. Whoever plays best gets to start Week 2 and beyond.

This is part of the NFL trap.
You have a talented young QB and you see him as the future so you just throw in the fire right away. 4 years of college doesn’t really mean it translates to NFL. The best move for Pittsburgh is to let Pickett sit for a few games and if the team isn’t performing the way you want then bench Mitch to start Pickett.
And we have to remember that Mitch is also young. And he might be better here than that terrible place called the bears.

Tomlin pretty much already named Trubisky as their #1 last week against the Lions when he played him the entire 1st half. There’s no mystery here.

There’s no benefit to starting Pickett week one. Let him watch the speed of a regular season game, let him watch the packages they run against Mitch, learn the game from the sideline, until week 5 or so.
The benefit is getting him experience NOW.

I understand you guys, but Mitch is a starting qb. I think Mitch gives us a better chance to win. And if he doesn’t preform as well as we want then put in Kenny. He’d would have already seen the way they played Mitch so he’ll learn and know what to do better. Just my opinion. Week 5 at the latest
Both Mitch and Kenny have shown no signs of why they SHOULDN’T be QB1. So I think it all comes down to experience. And Mitch has that under his belt. Another thing is our line is bad:/ i don’t want to see our future franchise QB behind that line till they figure it out.
Not only that, but let the offense line work into regular season play as well.

It’s the same situation as Maddox/Roethlisberger. Trubisky will start, Pickett will come in if needed.

As a Ravens I feel like its not gonna matter who the QB is. The Steelers are going to run the ball, and play great defense just like they did when they had QB Controversies in 1996 and 2002, which in both years they won the division and a playoff game in the process. I would not sleep on this team if I were you.

As a Steelers fan, I feel like the Steelers fanbase and the Ravens fanbase are the only two fanbases that truly understand each other and never underestimate each other, while the rest of the league always underestimates. The Steelers and Ravens are cut from the same cloth. Best rivalry in sports.

Whatever Coach T’s time frame is to name the starter is fine by me. We’ll know soon enough. I’m enjoying the hype since its been 18 fine years of not having to worry about a starting quarterback.
I hope Picket starts next year. All the greats, Brady, Rogers, Roethlisberger all premiered their second season as starters.

Maybe start Mitch for the year. Develop Kenny at number 2. After the season ends trade Mitch for a Draft + spot. Unless of course Mitch Balls out all year.
