Someone explain how the pack can keep love next year? Do we have to pay fifth year option? I really hope we can keep in but bearing Rodgers retire idk how lol hoping someone smart can explain!

    Isa’azEL

Yes the option is available on love

This is JLo’s last “evaluation year” Meaning at the the end of this year the Packers will have to decide what they want to do with him. They can decide to utilize his 5th year option. This would mean that the packers want him, they want him to stay regardless of what Arod decides to do. Rodger’s contract has a large impact on this decision making process as well. ARod has a large cap hit not coincidentally on the same year of JLo’s 5th year option. Meaning if Packers decide to move on from Aaron they can trade him that year instead or restructuring. (this is assuming he wants to continue playing). So JLo would take over on the year of his 5th year option.
Alternatively, they decide after this year JLo just isn’t the guy. They will shop him next year and do everything they can to restructure and extend Aaron’s contract. This will be pretty easy to do as this is how they structured the contract to work. 3rd, Aaron’s contract allows him to retire at anytime without penalty and he still gets guaranteed money. He has openly mentioned he may only have a couple years left. The packers may re-signn JLo to a 2 year contract designed to have minimal cap hit to enable packer to keep both QB’s assuming JoLo is willing to wait even longer. This is unlikely but could happen. If they feel they have another 10 year franchise QB on their hands they will move on from Aaron especially if we fail in the playoffs for in 2022 and 2023.

Next year is his fourth year of the contract, so he is under contract. The Packers could exercise the fifth year, but that is two years away and would cost a shitload of money. But exercising the fifth year doesn’t add to the cost next year – unless that option exercised triggers both sides to negotiate. But why would Love do so, he would be getting a boatload and would be a free agent after. So the Packers won’t, especially since so far there hasn’t been consistent super star shown. So the contract will be in place next year, then it will be unlikely Packers will hear anything after.
