It’s true the real evaluation doesn’t start until Monday when you’re in full pads and everyone is in attack mode. HOWEVER, I hate that we continue to NOT believe what we are seeing right in front of our eyes. IF Mason is the most consistent, most accurate, and obviously has the best mechanics of ALL four quarterbacks, then Mason should get that recognition and opportunity to start. Mason had the worst scenario a QB could dream of and still had a winning season in 2019. People talk about the mental toughness of Trubisky, BUT don’t you think it took a lot of mental toughness for a guy like Mason to get drafted as Ben’s replacement and then to have to sit back and watch Ben’s lackluster performances BUT knowing that no matter how bad Ben plays, you’re NOT going in the game. That’s TOUGH!

Don’t fall in love with a quarterbacks ability to run because all we need is escape ability and enough mobility to take off down the field in rare occasions and Mason gives us that option. I haven’t seen a true running quarterback (29+rushing yds AVG per game) win a Super Bowl yet. Our offense is loaded with talent and I don’t want to see Claypool or Boykins or Austin or Pickens streaking down the field wide open OR Miller, Johnson, or Freiermuth wide open and then the cameras start zooming in on Trubisky running the ball. Running for a quarterback should be a last resort. It’s bad enough we’ve got running backs being both RBs & WR. We don’t need our QB to be a RB…that’s what we hired Najee for. However SITUTATIONALLY I think Mitch would be great in a sub package (ala Mariotta in Tennessee). Kenny has better mechanics than Mitch, but he just needs to get adjusted to the new speed of the game and get more experience. Remember both Kenny and Mitch played in the ACC (NOT full of great football). Everyone harps that Mitch was #2 pick in the draft, but consider the talent he played against in the ACC. He was beat by Daniel Jones (Duke) btw. Kenny is not a first rounder because honestly there was no first round QBs in this years draft, so it isn’t a surprise he was still sitting there at #20. We were very lucky to get George Pickens because he should have been the first guy we took.

KC was suspect the last 10 years as GM with #1 picks like Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns, Terrell Edmunds, & the latest Kenny Pickett. Don’t get me wrong, these guys are NFL caliber players, but went WAY TOO HIGH in the draft. It almost seems like the lower you draft a player, the more of chip he plays with, but unfortunately everyone cannot go in the first round. I propose to have one day of continuous draft picks and ditch the labels of round numbers because it’s all subjective.

We should at a minimum have a top 5 scoring defense and top 15 scoring offense. We should go 10-7 or 11-6. If we’re 4-4 or 3-5 before the bye, don’t worry. We have a very manageable 2nd half of the season.

It makes my physically ill to watch these guys purposely ignore what’s happening at camp. Is it a competition between Mitch and Kenny?? NO! Mason Rudolph is outplaying everyone at camp so PLEASE stop ignoring that. This little guy with the red hair refused to even say Mason’s name while speaking with Gary about the QB’s. If Mitch continues to get the first round reps all preseason even though he’s being outplayed, and they trot him out there as QB1 despite not being the best QB on the roster, it will be a tragedy. Especially because when fans are booing him off the field in game 3, Mason will be forced out there having yet another offseason working with the 2’s and not the 1’s. It’s sad to watch.
