Steelers draft next WR corps in George Pickens, Calvin Austin | Pro Football Talk | NBC Sports

Fake Name

Good WR development and coaching too probably

    Walter Paddick

Big Ben also was a big part of this.

Alan Fagan

The next GM of the Steelers was in that War Room for those 3 days no question in my mind
The future GM was there

    M Ladd

Yes, I saw him, he was shinning Tomlin’s shoes, Gilbride had Crocs on!

    Ant Mack

    @Alan Fagan Facts!!

    Dan Cruz

I hope this isn’t true because we need Louis Riddick

    Michael Jackson

    Yupp Omar Khan 😁😁😁

ThunderGod

Love this show!!! Always got great takes on my Steelers!!

RealEyesRealizeRealLies

Its Tomlin that’s responsible. Reason you don’t hear about it? It’s the Steelers, its called class.

    WT Sherman

    This cracks me up.

All this Tomlin love. He hasn’t developed anyone in 15 years. Now that Ben is gone, let’s see how he “develops” all of these receivers. You need a franchise QB to throw the ball to them. If they found one, they will have success. If they don’t? No WR guru.

    Dee Tree Ot

@WT Sherman Lol Ben hasn’t been good for 3 years and this team has still devloped under tomlin gtfo

    RealEyesRealizeRealLies

@WT Sherman Tomlin was a stud WR in college at William and Mary. Check his highlights. He has a keen eye for the position. He found brown late 6 round etc.

RoNīN GaījīN

Actually Mike Tomlin is the receiver savant. He played wide receiver for William & Mary. He knows what it takes to make a good receiver. If you ask the front office they’ll tell you it’s Mike.

    MrPoggsify

@JAMES J. JEFFERS well to be fair, pre tomlin we drafted some pretty good defensive backs

    Joe Terzio

@JAMES J. JEFFERS I’ve been a Steelers fan for over 40 years and have followed the draft since it was first broadcast on ESPN in 1980. There is not a thing you can tell me about how the Steelers draft that I don’t already know. The head coach of the Steelers makes the final choice on who the team drafts and that goes back to the Chuck Noll era. Yes, scouts, position coaches, coordinators, the personnel group led by Kevin Colbert and Art II all play roles, but Mike Tomlin makes the final call. It’s been that way for 50+ years now with the head coach being the final arbiter and it isn’t going to change.

    JAMES J. JEFFERS

@MrPoggsify Pre Tomlin still was still Bill Nunn scouting. During Tomlin STILL Bill Nunn scouting. After Tomlin STILL Bill Nunn scouting which lead to those. Again they have a Blueprint and Scout who fits that Blueprint.

    Angelo Christiano

Tomlin definitely plays a role in grooming them into special players. If anyone else drafted these guys they might not be as good. I love Pickens

Jonathan Stevens

Facts steelers own the WR factor of drafting its been like that my whole life kevin colbert is a GOAT !!!!!!! Steelers 4 life

    Artravious Wilson

Was done before Colbert arrived. Check the facts.

Kisembe Namusyule

Steelers, Bengals, & Cowboys are really good at drafting receivers.

    KEEM

    Steelers the best easily

Instinct

at one point our receiving core was hines ward, antonio brown, mike wallace, and emmanuel sanders

    WVU STEELERS CELTICS

@Instinct Yeah but playoffs matter the most and for what he’s rumored to be wanting…. I’d pass

    Lay-K47

Let’s be real we weren’t going 2 win against the chiefs. 😂😂😂 those diontae drops weren’t that bad. Big Ben was bad tho

    Danny Jones

    Thats crazy

    WVU STEELERS CELTICS

@Lay-K47 Maybe not that still doesn’t mean DJ is worth what he wants to get, I’d rather spend more on the oline rn, I guess let’s see what he can do with a more mobile QB first tho

    Pitchforker

Could also include Santonio Holmes there. That’s two Super Bowl MVPs in the same position group on the same team.

Undeadest

Maybe the common denominator is the man throwing the ball for 18 years. Jesus.

    fuzzy monkey 7833

    Maybe not

    Joel Heffner

The man throwing the ball has made a ton of pittsburgh wide recievers famous

Zack Amig

I love tomlin and I’m sure he knows his stuff, but hitting on wide recievers pre dates him. It was right around the time colbert got there. Although they had some dogs in the 70s and 80s too so it’s really probably an organizational/culture thing

    Zack Amig

@WT Sherman that’s true to a certain degree but not really because a lot of those guys had success elsewhere as well and tomlin knows how to get the respect of those divas and manage them….. thats no small task

    Sirzechs Azazel

@Zack Amig Tbf, only Sanders and AB had success afterwards. Many dudes who were WR2/3 in the Steelers struggled to even make rosters after leaving

    Zack Amig

@Sirzechs Azazel Burress won a super bowl didn’t he? Mike wallace did pretty well for himself too

    Zack Amig

@Sirzechs Azazel to be fair I don’t think the steelers produce a ton of “#1” recievers but more very productive reliable ones

    Sirzechs Azazel

@Zack Amig Wallace did okay, yeah. But he never reached the heights of when played at Pit. As for your next comment, I agree. But that’s mostly because the Steelers haven’t drafted a first round receiver in over 10 years

Blu Cheer

He drafted Herman Moore at Detroit along with Johnny Morton

Beautiful Life

I think the QB had something to do with why the receivers have been really good for 15+ years but yes they’re very good at evaluating the prospects too!

    WT Sherman

    It was ALL about Ben.

The reason they could plug and play so many WRs is because they had a HOF QB.

Michael Wade

It goes all the way back to Bill Nunn. He was the GOAT before Kevin, and the Cowher era, to Swann and Stallworth.

Jay Will

As a Ravens fan, I envy the Steelers’ eye for receiver talent. Respect!

    Kurt Janicki

@mdk Exactly! As good as we’ve been at drafting WR’s we’ve been horrible drafting CB’s.

    Josh Selkovits

Colbert drafted 3 super bowl MVP wide receivers in his 20 years. Hines Ward, Plaxico, and Santonio Holmes

    Michael Jackson

    And pass rushers too 😏😏

    Bigfoot270

Jay. The Ravens will be good again. It’s luck in the draft pick Steelers have made mistakes. Bush. Mason.

    Jay Will

@Bigfoot270 oh I know we will be good again. Specifically this year. Injuries hurt us last year. I just respect the way you guys draft. We missed some too. I think the injury hurt Bush for y’all.

Jack Pabich

I was really hoping the bears would pick up at least one of those receivers!

Sadam O'Neal

Steelers had a sneaky good draft.

    555calex

Yeah, they really did. It’s not often you see a team draft a qb plus 2 receivers within the top 5 rounds that by itself not including the other picks…

Vinny Linarez

Yea I agree it’s time the Steelers start getting something for these Wrs we let them walk all the time mike Wallace Emmanuel sanders just most recently and many other lower end wrs

    David Almighty

And martavius Bryant he was a problem

Mars Armory

Best football show on YouTube currently, good job guys!

Aaron

Diontae will probably be the one to go I think calvin austin will be his replacement

s on

Pickens is gonna be a monster! Perfect fit in pitt
