'Freak show' Christian Watson could be best WR of 2022 draft | Pro Football Talk | NBC Sports

Steve G

I feel sorry for all those good receivers going to crappy QB’s

    Henry Esparza

    facts

    Sam King

IKR, Aaron’s still gonna be tryin’ to zone in on Devonte Adams, so good luck if you’re a Green Bay Receiver…

    james bayliss

    lol

    Luca

    Aaron Rodgers?

    Yung Og

Yea pretty crappy for winning back to back mvps lol

Andrew Wilson

Packers 8-0 without Adams and their offense we significantly more efficient. Rodgers won’t be forcing it to one dude every game. People seem to forget this

    Vincent Vaughan

he could be like deebo samuel for the packers.

    Ch33zyBreadTrellie

Lazard was open for a TD….. but Rodgers was looking for Adams

    Ch33zyBreadTrellie

Who did he throw to when Adams was out?? Packers are 8-0 without him. And u are forgetting that AJ Dillon and Jones Are out there… and Jones has also played receiver

    Jeffery Zielke

@Le kebbles according to you he is awful. Please explain AR have a QB rating of 132.5 when throwing to Lazard since you’re so dam smart.

    Jeffery Zielke

@Le kebbles if you have the all 22, you would know he had the 6th highest efficiency rating in the NFL. He’s in the 90th percentile for height and speed. I think you’re a liar. If you had the all 22 you wouldn’t have made the statement, ” we’ll see how it does when it is the best covering him”. He torched latimore in that saints game. Eight targets 146 yards. And if you look at the Packers history with receivers, he has the best three season split between Jordy Nelson, davante Adams. Greg Jennings was the man. And then Jennings started to get plagued by injuries. Then Jordy Nelson was the man. And after Jordy Nelson got injured devonte Adams became the man. Alan Lazard is next.

Mike

LOL look how sick florio is. He knows what GB got with those first 3 picks.

    Michael Lopez

    Yeah…

    Vincent Brandys

Why does he HATE Rodgers and GB so much? What is the back story

    Oliver Swain

Lol it is subtle but it’s there. He can’t stand what Simms’ is saying.

    FTamayoiii777

    @Vincent Brandys he’s a Vikings fan

    Vincent Brandys

@FTamayoiii777 thanks. I had no idea why. But that makes sense

Mick Crocodile Dundee

He, Doubs and Rodgers are gonna go off!!

OmegaW3apon 13

Watson and doubs will be stretching the field..

    Stone Colds

    Nope

    OmegaW3apon 13

    @Stone Colds lol

Matt Pritzl

Gute absolutely killed it in this draft. The “no first round receiver” crowd still whines, but realistically there’s no difference between taking a guy at 28 vs 34. Isn’t it better to get a first round value in the second anyway?

    Tone Money

Naw no 5th year option but yeah in win now case

    Ranger9700

pass on edge rushers johnson and karlaftis? nope. give up #59? no

    Johan Stinson

@Adam B34 nope. You have no idea if it shakes out the same way if the Packers do what you said they should have.

    Adam B34

@Johan Stinson lol… you’re literally ignoring what ACTUALLY happened. Look at the draft, NOBODY was targeting ILBs early. Stop being obtuse

    Johan Stinson

@Adam B34 you have no idea what other reams wanted. If they leave the LB till late 2nd round it’s very easy to think another team would have taken him.

Everything you posted relies entirely on the draft going the exact same way if the Packers act totally different. You have zero reason to think that or believe it to be the case other than personal opinion

Michael Surya

If watson polish his release, this dude gonna be a monster

    james bayliss

    release? more like route tree

    Johan Stinson

With GBs track record developing recievers I’m not worried whatsoever about Jo’s release or his route tree.

Not using a lot of the route tree in games doesn’t mean he doesn’t know how to run them

    james bayliss

@Johan Stinson well his release ain’t gonna be an issue if he gots speed the problem will be with other teams drawing flags for penalties cuz they gonna be holding or pass interfering

MottaGroove

The guy who will strike fear in the heart of the defense will be AJ Dillon, running trought the middle. By half-season you will see how much stack in the box they will put to stop de QUADZILLA

    Tone Money

    Facts

    Unknown Source

Watson and lazar gonna be best blocking WR duo. Gonna be fun to watch.

    Alana Richards

if they dedicate the offense to run heavy jones would be inserted into top 5 in the league discussions, they have just been pass heavy, but when they refuse to run it in a playoff game it gives me no hope they will dedicate themselves to a run offense in the regular season

    Tone Money

    @Alana Richards they did 2020

    RB_medic

Superior Sports Highlights

Amazing talent!

CarrytheG Gilbert

There one part of his game they didn’t talk about His Run blocking ability him and Allen Lazard Might be the best run Blocking duo in the NFL and when you have Aaron and AJ in back field that scary

    Speaks Mcgee

Plus Sammy Watkins was the #1 rated blocking WR last year, per PFF. Apparently. I never checked to see if it was true.

    Randy Reading

@Speaks Mcgee o be fair; they also did not mention his bad hands dropped passes.

JRMusic

I was honestly stoked at the Packers drafts this year. The D is going to be an even bigger force to compete with and without Adams, Rodgers is going to be forced to look at each receiver instead of zoning in solely on one man.

    BigSwo2909

Or maybe they can run freaking AJ & Jones more.

    scourge

@BigSwo2909 They tried last year, but when Bahk, Myers and Jenkins are out…PLUS Tonyan…we had a MUCH smaller OL next year than we’ll see this year.

And two of these fucking picks this year…they’ll be starting week one. Tom I think will start all year. Rhyan is a THICC dude who could he a dog at RG…and maybe he’s that short armed RT…IDK, I like Nijman, but they went with Dennis Kelly over him.

    BigSwo2909

@scourge I still they need to bring in another WR too just to help Watson, Lazard & old Cobb.

    scourge

@BigSwo2909 I think if they can sign Julio, you do that in a heartbeat. He’s a guy that NOBODY would be shocked if he had a 90 catch, 1200 yard season next year. And you’ll get him for a discount. Maybe a 1 year 7.5M with incentives to earn another 2. They’d have to add some void years(so fucking what).

But I don’t think they need to add just anyone. It’s got to be someone capable of playing the X and beating outside coverage. Otherwise, we just run a lot of bunches and try to find the best way to get the ball in Watson’s hands.

He’s gonna be a stud…but yes, a guy like Julio could be HUGE for us. People act like he’s a 38 year old WRer who’s washed. He is a guy who was still elite to start 2020, got hurt(still put up a better season than anyone on this core other than Cobb has) the 2nd half and then last year was just a disaster…but also on a much worse passing offense as the #2 option.

Fuller or OBJ…not a fan of. OBJ maybe in November if he looks good.

Short of that, I’d look to trade for a guy like Shenault or…maybe Corey Davis. I don’t know, but I think this team right now is closer to winning a Super Bowl than any I’ve seen at THIS point in the year other than…ironically, after the year they won the SB.

That doesn’t mean much other than you have a shot and talent. Still need good luck and young guys to produce, but…the talent is there.

    BigSwo2909

@scourge even if Julio isn’t what he was, and he’s not he will still allow everyone else to eat. I’m still pissed that they didn’t go get Justin Jefferson a few years ago. Him with Adams would have been absolutely comical to try to guard.

I’m not a fan of OBJ in Green Bay, I see that fool fold up like a lawn chair when it gets a little cold out. I was kinda hoping James Washington went there because I think he wasn’t used right in Pittsburgh but the Cowboys grabbed him.

Loren Jones

Watson is a brilliant wide receiver. He’s been a joy to follow during his college career.

    668771

Can’t believe everyone doesn’t see the Vikings only did this because they must have known Watson is a bust. It’s the only plausible scenario. Sometimes everyone should just use common sense. In fact, the Vikings would have just picked Cine at #12 if they knew Williams was good. Or Booth at #34 if they knew Watson would hurt them. They only made those moves because they knew it was a win. Otherwise you would never trade back to a division opponent.

    Loren Jones

@668771 LOL! No, I’d say this is consistent with the Vikings’ lack of foresight and inability to draft winning talent. Some things never change.

    Hi Bye

@668771 Since when do the vikings make good decisions in the draft?? lol. Just another delusional minnesota sports fan

bg147

I have seen receivers with all types of athletic ability but I always ask the same questions… can he run routes well and how big was his route tree in college?

    Hi Bye

Don’t you think scouts and the front office look into all this lol? You’re not the only one who thinks this

Brian Dodge

Dammit! They did TRY to trade up! BG thought the price was too high so he stayed put and it turned out great!

Steve Arttus

Not sure having a receiver that you game plan around is important. It seems it is better when the defense doesn’t know who to key on. But this changes the offensive game a bit, because this will put more pressure on the QB and the pass protection, to allow the QB to go through his reads more quickly and/or more efficiently. Green Bay may be up to the task…🤔

Ladidadi

the receivers they would have had us reach for were gone so they took the best available then let this freak fall to them

michael t.

Since Rodgers is the ” centerpiece ” & ” leader of the pack”…It’s of paramount importance that he attend ALL OTA’s to create respect, chemistry & most importantly, set an example of veteran leadership if he wants another SB ring! Timing must be created between the rookie & free agent veteran receivers. Watch what people do! Not by what they say! We need a selfless leader & don’t need another “Diva” in GB!!!

Calvertron

Florio is sick in this interview, he knows the Viqueens are gonna get dominated once again..and I LOVE IT! : D

kj luedtke

I have to say this is the first time that the majority of Packer fans agree this draft was very very good. Gute seems to have done both draft for need and best talent at time of the picks.
Can’t comment yet as to the future so I hope it keeps going like it is.
GO PACK GO

Jus Jah

Thank you Minnesota.

Sincerely,

Your Arch Rivals The Green Bay Packers
