Josh Allen Rated Best Deep Ball Passer in the NFL | Bills By The Numbers Ep. 30 | Buffalo Bills

In this week's Bills by the Numbers podcast presented by FanDuel, Chris Brown and Steve Tasker examine how and why Josh Allen turned into the most effective deep ball passer in the NFL and if it will continue in 2022 under new OC Ken Dorsey. NFL.com writer Nick Shook joined us to explain how Allen rated #1 in his deep ball passer rankings top 10 list. In ‘The Numbers Game’ we quizzed Steve on the receiving average leaders in the AFC East. Our ‘One Burning Question’ examined how quickly rookie RB James Cook can be a key contributor.

Mind Over Mana

I think that we’ll see a lot of 2 high safety play in the AFC this year because of how absolutely loaded the conference is at quarterback. For teams to be successful I feel like they’ll have to stop the pass first and foremost. So i’m not entirely sure what this list looks like after this season, but it may be a bit more out of whack depending on how certain teams are strategized against.

    Smurkiao

You can’t do that with Josh cause he such a threat

    paulcbaum74

Arm strength and velocity of the ball will make it a league of 10ths of a second difference at Q.B. play.

Imagine if you went back in time and showed this video to PFF

    panda song

Why? Are you a Cleveland fan? Are you grateful for all the haters that made him attainable at number 7?

    Flam

@panda song No, I’m a Bills fan. I was saying that because they (PFF) would never believe it at the time.

Allen has quickly developed into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL! He will have another great season in Buffalo this year!

    mongoose mcmongoose

@Mike Dikisaard sounds like a typical jets fan.

    Randy Lamb

Oh for the Coin flip. The naysayers and haters enjoy your moment. Patriots defense, and a Bill Belichick scheme. 4 incompletions. Josh carried the Bills offense vs.The Chiefs. Team game, defense oh defense. Final 9 tds zero ints. Two games. You wish!

    Mike Dikisaard

@mongoose mcmongoose fan of the six time, superbowel champs new England Patriots, the overrated bills cant even compare!

    Stickguy

@Mike Dikisaard lmao not you again. you call the bills a playoff choker? 47-17 bro is probably a bandwagon from when brady played

dante jenkins

I never thought in a million years that we will have the #1 player in the nfl b4 and during his prime i mean jim kelly was great great but he was never really considered the #1 player in the nfl most would agree but this man we got mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

    Jack B

I know. Quickly he is turning into the biggest Buffalo athlete/icon of all time. Only thing he could do to mess it up, is kill somebody. (OJ Simpson Joke 😅)….

    dante jenkins

    @Jack B 😂😂😂😂

Paul Deck

I love the early question about Josh’s intelligence, especially that his physical prowess overshadows his intelligence, which is something I’ve thought; I keep trying to tell naysayers to watch out, cuz Josh is smart enough that he won’t have to run once he sees enough of these defenses. I think people underestimate his lack of high-level coaching and how much better he could have been when he entered the League if he’d been from a big city or at least not a farming village population 300 (or whatever Firebaugh is), and actually received some attention

    Randy Lamb

Thank God for that, if Josh had been in a major high ranked ncaa conference he’d of been taken off the board earlier. Josh and Bills mafia forever.

    adam e

JOSH is as bright as any qb in the league. He works as hard as Brady too. Let people figure it out over the next 15 years plus.

Franco

We gotta help Steve think outside of the box 😂

paulcbaum74

Burrow can’t make something out of nothing in scrambling; he’s a complete pocket passer and that’s it.

    Eugene Poon

I wouldn’t say so, he is nowhere near Allen’s level but there is an in between
He is way more of a broken play passer than the likes of Brady, Cousins, Big Ben, Jimmy G all QBs I would call “complete pocket passers”
After all Burrow’s first ever TD in the NFL is a 20+ yard rushing TD

    Eric V

Ya your wrong watch LSU burrow ain’t josh but he’ll make plays with his legs

    paulcbaum74

@Eric V I’ve seen it at times but Burrow is no longer in college and not at LSU.
Today’s NFL defenses will hurt him and prevent him from his God given ability to remain in the pocket.
Josh Allen is a linebacker/tight end body as an amazing and unique athlete at the position at Q.B.

    paulcbaum74

    @Eric V lol you’re right bro; I don’t know what I’ve seen. 🤣

seleb

Go Bills!!

Ramon Pagan

Whatever Josh works on he improves by leaps and bounds!!!

Best ”Hail Mary” long passer, maybe. Allen is 19th in the NFL in yards per pass attempt. Joe Burrow is #1. Even Mac Jones is 6 slots ahead of Allen in YPA.

    Josh Hughart

Don’t you think that has more to do with play calling? No disrespect to those players but that’s a misleading stat. When you have guys like Chase you tend to get down the field or huge yac plays. Unless he leads avg air yards per completion. I would be very surprised with Mac jones especially because the arm strength is avg at best for the NFL.

D22 Williams.22

Allen threw the *12th most passes over 20 yards in the air last year. QB’s like Cousins, Mac Jones and Garapollo all threw more long passes. The stat in the vid looks like a made-to-order puff stat. Highly subjective. [*source – official NFL website]

ronald brignoni

Tasker hit it right on the nose. He learns because he is smart.

Blueberry Wilbur

Maybe Josh will be a complete QB by year 10🤣🤣🤣🤣

rockymntskier

Josh Allen scored a 37 on the Wonderlic test. He is very smart and he is probably the most physically talented QB that the NFL has ever seen.

Patrick O'Connor

Personally I see Josh thriving on the excitement of being in scrambling movement. I can see his body gives no detection of where his throw is going when he is in motion, which is so confusing to the cornerbacks and safties. However the man is just gonna be naturally good in any situation he is put in.
