Are Arsenal, Arteta correctly managing Aubameyang? | Premier League: The Boot Room | NBC Sports

Babu O

Non negotiable Robbie, no one is excluded. Auba is the captain for crying out loud.
Arteta did the right thing. What if other players start behaving like that? The club would crumble

    Shpongle

He doesn’t disagree with that. He’s just saying that most managers would keep it on the hush. Sir Alex Ferguson did this all the time with his players. So he’s just saying there is a reason why he’s doing it publicly. Most likely wants him gone

    Chase T

But why hurt his stock right before you try and move him? Arteta is brain dead

anovaguy

At his age, Auba shouldn’t have to be managed and should be helping to manage.

Ishaan Hall

If he didn’t make it public then everyone would be going crazy wondering what happened. Remember during the brentford game when Auba and lava were not in the Squad the media had a field day trying to create a narrative that Auba and arteta had fallen out. Now he is asked about it and talks about it he shouldn’t have gone public? I swear if this was any other manager there would be no problem with it

    DShadow

Great point. Everyone was going crazy about it, and then blamed him for not going public to avoid it.

    Ishaan Hall

@DShadow it’s ridiculous I remember the media storm saying BS about how mikel had fell out with Auba and Laca

    Ashley Loveland

this is for us to watch this vid lol … click bait

heidi smith

Arteta did a great job

    liston Grey

I dont think Arteta should have gone public, with the Aubu issue.

    Isaiah Jones

@liston Grey it would’ve been public anyway, Arteta is still developing his manager credentials and identity and he has to be show that he’s not some puppet and has the ability to enforce rules

BANKS LDN

What is this guy talking about he’s not the captain no more as far as I’m concerned and on top of that been off form for going on a year and a half now he’s not acting professional

steve O'Sullivan

Maybe, just maybe it will be a wake up call to the talented but aging striker. Hard to find goal scorers, but hard to keep a unit playing as a team. Arsenal is loaded with young talent. My worthless opinion is to play him and if December does not pan out for Aubameyang, transfer him, or loan him out. No one wants another Orzil.

J. M. Montes

Why was he late though? Was it something out of his control? Or was he out having a good time?

    Erik Lakeland

Good question, that would make a big difference

J W

The greater the player, the more the responsibility lies on the player to be committed and disciplined. Gone are the days when your superstars had to be treated with kid gloves and had their separate rules. When you look at City, LFC, Bayern Munich and other successful teams, the first thing you will note is the superstars and the most senior players are the most committed and the most disciplined.
Cantona could get away with this in the 1990s. So could Maradona and Gazza. Today’s game is far more professional and cutthroat than the 1990s and such behavior just makes for a subptimal team. There was a reason that Ronaldhinio with all his genius was shipped out of Barcelona because Barca didn’t want a bad influence around on a young Messi. When you look at CR7, Messi, Lewa, Salah, the commitment to discipline, training and the team is 100%. Anything less is unacceptable.
Arsenal is still living in the 1990s with the fax machines and dial up modem mentality. That is why PSG will never be the team they could be because Neymar and Mbappe will never be the players other players would want to look up to.

    Javier Landaverde

Mbappe really??? Guy is carrying the offense for PSG. Performing better then Messi.

    J W

@Javier Landaverde Carrying a team vs being a bad influence are 2 separate things. Ronaldhinio was the talisman of Barcelona, promptly shipped off because the powers to be feared for him to be a bad influence on a young Messi. Performance may hide a lot of issues but it doesn’t mean that they are good influences.

    Jedediyah Aaron Yisrael

@Javier Landaverde Did you even read what he wrote? GOSH!!!🤦🏾‍♂️

dat guy you know

I just don’t think Arteta knows how to manage certain players. He still doesn’t get much production out of Pepe, Auba, Partey, Mari or Torreira

    Sean Schumikowski

My thoughts are that with Pepe, it wasn’t his signing, and he has to figure out what he can provide simply because of the player’s inflated price tag, otherwise he would d be out. Auba doesn’t respond like a player hungry for success on the pitch, like he did when he carried them through the FA Cup, Partey is developing and will pair well with Lokonga in the future, Mari is easily the least versatile center half in the squad, and Torreira was clearly out of his plans for a while even though he had potential and spirit

arsenalcrazy8

As far as I’m concerned a manager should be allowed to manage the players he has how he wants when it comes to discipline / selection.

And maybe I’m mostly saying that because Auba is not who he was 2 years ago.

aarlo11

first Arsenal error was making Auba captain… second error was keeping him as captain.

Blaed13

aubameyang is good, but not consistently great. he’s not a good enough player to get away with that kind of thing. and arteta is right to set a public standard. it’s a message to players and fans alike that he has a high standard, which is always nice to see.
if aubameyang wants to leave because his dumb actions have consequences he didn’t like? arsenal could probably replace him within two transfer windows. or, they learn to adapt. but i think he’ll stay. probably shouldn’t be the captain anymore though.

Erik Lakeland

I’m sure the next time he plays, Arteta will reinstate his captaincy. Lol

Walking Justice

I watched last week when they lost a game, him being set up inside the box (penalty area) and he sent it flying over the cross bar. Arsenal needs a better striker.

abiodun odeleye

I’m with Arteta 100%. He’s been patient long enough.
So Robbie Mustoe, keep the discipline private, by lying to the press? Robbie Earle got it right.

    Taiwo Ishola

Right I thought the same thing. After all, its sports. People will figure it out even if Arteta tried to cover it up. I’m sick of people making excuses for professional athletes to be more disciplined with the amount of money they make. Its a job just like any other profession and needs to be taken seriously.

WaleWonka S

Man, the quality of studio punditry drops so much when Rebecca and the 2 Robbies aren’t there. The only thing anyone is sure of in this case is that we don’t know the full story. I wish they recognized this more

Michael Farojoye

Nobody is indispensable so let the team be built based on discipline understanding and perfect knowledge and rules of football.

10 Str

Subs is one of the best strikers in Europe so keep him if you can coz when he moves you’ll not find another one

Jedediyah Aaron Yisrael

Never compromise on discipline.

Slavik Elliott

He is a captain… there’s responsibility that comes with it and with a young squad we need to make sure they learn responsibility
