I’m OK losing to the Chiefs in a gutwrencher like that. Coach Staley brought it up — have the Chiefs not played in the last 2 of 3 Super Bowls and won 6 game straight, what does that say about the Chargers? The team is going to be hungry in the playoffs and the AFC is going to watch out in the wildcard rounds. Should the Bolts make it through the 1st round and we face the Chiefs who’ll prob get a bye — Chiefs fan better not get comfortable with home field advantage —— they are 0/1 at home against the Bolts. Regardless, what a great rivalry being catapulted with 2 of the top 5 QBs in the league, in our division! Big shoutout to Neveah for saving her best friends mom’s life! The rewards are nice and all but there is no deeper sense of gratitude when in a critical moment you save someone’s life with knowledge innate to you; Bolt up!!⚡️⚡️⚡️

Another WorldView Is Possible

So let me just say, that I see ONE issue, that could be the difference in this game – setting aside Parham dropping a touchdown, when he gets knocked unconscious, hitting the turf in the endzone (something that never happens – and that you can’t plan or account for) …

The issue is the misuse of Justin Jackson. They treat him like he CAN’T get touchdowns, or even play, often, in goal line situations. When he dies, it seems like they only use him as a blocker.

I think that this is a serious problem, where the team seems to lack the faith in him, to come up with needed yardage, or to make a goal line catch, in clutch situations… I believe in JJ. That play where Kelly dropped the ball, on the two – was an easy JJ score – or just better ball handling, and a touchdown, on the same play, on the next down, for one more yard. That’s the kind of gritty game that JJ should be forced to build for himself, to round out his abilities as a running back.

And he’s got good vision. He can break that TD run to the outside (or out of bounds on the sideline) – or pitch back to Herbert – or show the patience and maturity, to go for it again on a different play, or a different read by the defense, on the next down.

That they lack the confidence, or have the vision to scheme effectively, for him to succeed in such situations…well, it just shouldn’t be the case.

If JJ is getting you 15 yard runs and catches down the field – you need to give him the respect, to put it on his shoulders – in the ensuing first, second, and third and goal situations, and to get that last yard.

Obviously, he’s got better fundamentals, and maturity, than Josh Kelly – who is young, and has plenty of upside, and time to rise in the RB depth chart.

Meanwhile JJ has paid his dues, and has consistently done the dirty work, and the thankless jobs, to get the team the win, both on offense, and special teams. He should be getting at least one TD a game, whether running behind our beasts on the front line – just like another 22 – Emmitt Smith, did – or by catching a short pass on, near, or inside of the goal line.

It shouldn’t have to be him doing all that work…and then always be him watching – as Ekler or Kelly, or Allen or a TE, are harvesting the touchdown.

JJ can catch, too. So if the goal line defense is reading “run” – just play-action and get the throw to him, once he’s past the line, or out in the flat, or on a faked sweep. Hell – set up a pass to Keenan – and instead of taking an inherently risky throw, into triple coverage – throw to JJ…one out of 5 plays, or just give it to JJ on a ‘delayed draw’ or a screen, after he’s laid a perfect block on someone. If HERBERT then has to lay a block for JJ – I want to see that happen, for the touchdown, on a least one drive… If all else fails, and JJ draws away a defender or two – then Herbert walks it in, himself, while pump-faking it to JJ.

Preferably it would be on a drive that JJ helped to get rolling, by breaking a big run or two – or by effectively cut-blocking a free running linebacker or safety. When he sells out for the team – the team should pay that back with a wee bit of respect, and an opportunity to shine and get some limelight… Particularly if Ekler is hurt and not 100%…but he’s already getting a TD or more every game… So this really shouldn’t be too hard.

And the percentages, numbers and analytics being what they are – defenses are likely to read “pass”, whenever they see JJ in the backfield, in a short yardage, or goal-to-go situation – and him as an extra-blocker.

So he may actually get less people in the box against him – and a light front, to run against, at least the first few times that they do this. When defenses start reading on him as a goal line run-threat – THEN you throw it to 13, who will only be getting double coverage, for a change.

ONE TOUCHDOWN more – and the Chargers win this game against the Chiefs, inside of regulation. Two more touchdowns – and they can start taking a knee to run out the clock on the Chiefs.
