I miss the old days😥

Chris Brown

Accept that we’re in a rebuild, fix the trenches first and add weapons for our next QB of the future.

    Jake Stevens

That’s exact right bro. The quarterback wasn’t the problem(except the salary) it doesn’t matter who runs our offense even Tom Brady would have failed in with that line.

    Andy MacCracken

That window was once in a lifetime…Matty has been a HOFer since year 3. Arthur has lost it.

    Andy MacCracken

@Chris Brown missed 3 games in his career. Hands down wrong move. Terry Fontenot is like a poison pill sent from Aintland

    Chris Brown

@Andy MacCracken doesn’t matter how many games he missed, that contract was cancer and part of the reason we’re in cap hell now.

Jackson Flores

Rebuilding after not making the playoffs for 4 years awesome

    Enclave96

You can thank dmitroff for that

    Bully Bully

    Ill say 2-3

Joe Schmo

That’s great you realize that you can’t pay everyone on the team to build one, but where was this foresight when the previous GM was allowed to spend recklessly?

Ryan’s contract if never touched was an affordable 30 mill cap hit per year with an easy out in the final years. But it was apparently good business to push money owed and back load it to pay replaceable guys like Freeman, Beasley, Ricardo Allen, even Desmond Trufant, and not to mention the James Carpenters and Jamon Browns of the world. Or an aging Julio whose extension wasn’t worth it not too long after it was signed. They would’ve paid Austin Hooper and continued the cycle, if they weren’t numerically forced not to.

Letting players go who can be replaced for cheaper and having foresight on them is part of good management, even if you have the money to pay them. Almost sounded like he didn’t learn the lesson of the Dimitroff method having a bad inevitable ending, and just wants to reset it.

    Joe Schmo

@David Willis I wasn’t saying to not use the draft. Just that it’s not the only or inherently most important tool available. And that the only thing that matters from a financial standpoint is the structure of the contract. The draft provides a fixed wage scale based on the round and pick number the rookie is selected since they changed the CBA years ago. Which can be good. But that doesn’t mean your team has to be built primarily through the draft, and it’s a futile approach considering the success rate even for those that draft well. All that matters is the contract structure of the talent you acquire, not how you acquire them. Teams like the Patriots and Ravens have been following this for years.

For example, Pitts has a cap hit this year of 7.4 mill. Patterson has a cap hit of 2.5 mill. Hypothetically if both have similar seasons to last year or better, they’ll be both playing above their pay grade, and you might be able to make a reasonable argument Patterson would be further above his pay grade. One was acquired through the draft, the other FA. But different contract structures. And those contract structures allow for maximum value, which is ultimately what matters. There’s multiple examples, but the point is, use all the sources you have and you won’t have to emphasize one over the other as long as value and cost effectiveness are the things that are prioritized.

FAXXX!! WE STILL PAYING JULIO AND TRUFANT!!!

    Amk02

We need to stop placing all the blame on Dimitroff. At the end of the day, Arthur Blank decides who gets paid and who doesn’t. We made everyone with expiring contracts the highest paid in their position. That’s not all on GM, everyone has to have a line in the sand and Arthur doesn’t seem to have one.

    David Willis

@Joe Schmo Free Agent signings and Trades have about as high a failure rate as the Draft. Perfect example is Patriots wasting a 2nd Rd pick to get Mohamed Sanu then the Titans wasting another 2nd Rd pick on Julio Jones. Donte Fowler and Dunta Robinson are perfect FA examples.

    Joe Schmo

@David Willis Yes, but you’ve missed the critical point I keep making. It is about value and the structure of the contract associated. Failures are bound to happen. Draft picks have fully guaranteed 4 year contracts that can go as high as 35-40 million dollars these days, non-negotiable due to the CBA. Would you rather fail on that, or a lower guaranteed shorter term FA? Again, I’m not saying I’m anti-draft. You should draft obviously. But to say it’s the primary method for building a team ignores the necessity of being cost effective and getting value from the players on your team, which should be the main goal. So all avenues to acquire players have to receive equal attention.

Also, if FA signings have about the same failure rate as draft picks, then giving up draft picks for failed FA signings makes things a wash in the end by that logic. I don’t agree with it, but that’s the train of logic there. Because trades are more about leverage, the market, bidding wars, and what the teams can afford to lose and be ok with. You can’t look at compensation in those cases in a vacuum as it’s all case by case.

William Amey

Can we get some dogs on defense this year draft good this year so they could start now and play them doing preseason

Richard Pierce

I’m so glad he pointed out it takes everyone on the field to win and not just 1 player.

Richard Pierce

I’m so glad he pointed out it takes everyone on the field to win and not just 1 player.

40PackNugs

If Travon Walker is avaliable at 8 I pray that we get him. We need a big dog up front and if we can’t get him then trade back and bring home Jordan Davis! We can get a solid wr in day 2

    yoiya

    travon walker isn’t that good

christopher lozynsky

Black and red till i die!!! We will get it right. Takes time. Matt Ryan will make the postseason this year. Get over it Ryan haters!! NFC south will be ours again real soon. Stay tuned. WE DAT

dinewalton

I changed my mind. I’m starting to like Matt Corral alittle more than Willis and Pickett. I’m ok with passing on Willis now and seeing if Corral or Pickett falls to the Falcons in the 2nd round.

I would find the best offers for Grady or Jake and try to get an extra 1st or 2nd pick for Grady or Jake

    Mike Smith

Jake isn’t going anywhere; they just extended him last week.

Kelvin Woods

I’m glad that Arthur Blank has a total team approach and appreciation for the team and that he has openly allowed the fans to know that he hears us all. I’m glad to be a fan of a team that can recognize when cheers have become silent and has the humbleness to encourage us through rough seasons. Thanks Mr. Blank Go Falcons!!!!

Carlos Flores

I appreciate Arthur Blank. He has brought in the best Falcons era. Hoping this goes well and we bring a title home in 3 yeas or so. Good luck Matt but I am a Falcons fan first and a Matt Ryan or any player 2nd. Rise up!

Slander Corruption MGTOW

Great move blank

Isaac Crimes

Taking a QB @8 and tanking will not fix the team. If we don’t start building the trenches, especially on defense, then we will be the laughing stock of the league…. AGAIN

Ben Lotto

Well, the Falcons not only drafts busts but also signs busts. Then we wonder why the Falcons are almost always bottom tier. SMH

GGG

The Great Matt Ryan salary was a problem, yet you were willing to trade the farm for a QB that was going to cost more?

miss me with that bullish*t..

Davy Brazell

#54 Foye Oluokun the league’s top tackling linebacker some how leaves in FA and signs in Jax, so hopefully Mykel Walker is ready for that BIG step bc he’s gotta job too do.

Falconsfan408

I’m almost positive either we take a WR or edge at 8. I doubt we draft a qb this season

Ian Raine

how do we always have no cap space? we are paying high wages for crap players. someone needs to start identifying quality players or coach them up.

Richard Martin

There’s something I wish you might make happen and that would be get Julio Jones back
