Taking into account the magnitude of an NFC Championship game, and given the fact how close this game was at the time and this being the 4th quarter of the game, I would say this is the greatest catch in NFL playoff history! Not to mention Ricky Proel caught this ball with his bicep! His bicep!!! Thank you Ricky!! The Bucs defense was incredible that day. That play likely saved our season! Go Rams!!!

    Welsley Babington

Playoff history? Maybe for the Rams but I think the Tyree catch or the Edelman’s catch in the Super Bowl are both much bigger.

    AdvantEdgeDigital

@Welsley Babington well since I am a Rams fan, it sure was arguably the greatest playoff catch in Rams history at that time! Nonetheless, since Tampa Bay’s defense was playing lights out, and the Rams hadn’t yet scored a touchdown all game, and add to the fact that Ricky Proel caught this ball with his BICEP, this was definitely one of the greatest catches in NFL playoff history! David Tyree’s catch was incredible as well.

I will never forget it, after years of the frustration of losing NFC Championships to the Cowboys and Vikings in the 70’s and the to the 9ers in the 80’s, this was a classic, I also thought the 01 team was actually better, but got screwed on the “no call” face mask on Warner’s int for a TD, “Patriots” ugh !, but the Rams are BACK and a legit contender every year with McVay, 1st time since the 70’s they have had 5 winning seasons in a row, I believe they will take the division from Arizona and end up #2 seed

This game and the SB were both nail bitters. Back to back games of absolute stress lol

Best part of that play was John Lynch had a front row seat for the clutch play that sent him home. Go Rams!

Ricky Proehl’s only TD catch that season – truly an outstanding play – there was no Super Bowl without that catch
