Ever since Dennis Allen came back, our talent evaluation especially defensively has been outstanding. Trust your instincts, evaluations. Pick the players you love. It may sound silly, but it’s okay to assess talent on your terms.Trying to grade multiple positions side by side in a ranked order is hard…but if it’s framed as, “who are your favorite players in this class?” Regardless of position, regardless of projection, regardless of “grade.” Who you like most may be different than how it grades on a big board. – Abram Smith might not rank ahead of James Cook
– Avery Roberts might not rank ahead of Leo Chenal
– Reed Blakenship & Percy Butler might not rank ahead of Nick Cross
– Josh Pascal & Thomas Booker might not rank ahead of Perion Winfrey
– George Pickens & Alec Pierce might not rank ahead of Chris Olave

But, those are some players I liked more than others technically ranked ahead of them. Trust eyes & eval. Looking at this class from a historical context, a lot of fans might expect us to trade up because we’ve done it in the past, or they might expect us to draft a WR at 18, but I’m not sure that’s how this draft will unfold. What if there’s better value at WR in round 2/3 (like Adebo at CB last year)? From my perspective (which is limited bc I don’t have access to info & film like pro scouts), this is one of the better classes I can remember for potential trade back. I scout for hobby, have about 140 players on my Saints big board, 48 I like a lot, and a few “must haves.” A lot of my “must haves” aren’t even 1st rd picks (Jarvis Landry type prospects who might go between picks 32 – 120) but still could provide better impact than their draft range. Where a player’s picked doesn’t matter. Get the players you love.
