I hope we either keep Patrick Graham as DC or get ex-Ravens DC Don Martindale. The Giants need to fix the Oline obviously & probably a #1 TE with Engram likely gone. Also, health is a huge issue & consistent health & availability will be crucial to the team’s improvement. We have led the NFL in injuries since 2009 by a wide margin. In 2021 nearly 1/3 of the Giants were injured.
Now the defense is in much better shape & we have some nice players & exciting young players. Dex & Leonard man the D-Line. Quincy Roche & Azeez Ojulari are exciting up & coming pass pushers. Our secondary is stacked with Bradberry, Ryan, Love & McKinney. Of course we have some salary & salary cap issues. Our defensive leader ILB Blake Martinez was out for the year & he along with other high salary guys might get cut. However I hope we can keep guys like Bradberry & Martinez as they are important players on the defense.
If we cut Blake, our linebacking corps outside of Roche & Ojulari will be very weak. Tae Crowder does an admirable job but he isn’t strong, has bad instincts & rarely makes any imoactful plays. He is one of the leagues worst off -ball linebackers. Our defense needs help from the offense because they Giants D got gassed a lot from poor time of possession. Additionally , our defense can really help our offense as all sides of the ball affect the others. With an improved offense & some upgrades at pass rush & linebacker I think our defense can return to being a top defense again.
We have 5 picks in the Top 80. We obviously need to address the Oline but this draft is loaded with defensive players like George Karlaftis, David Ojabo, Nakobe Dean, & Devid Lloyd. Besides Olinemen & a TE, we need to add a top pass rusher & a good inside linebacker. Upgrading those spots could really help this defense. Let’s Go Giants!
