Wink Martindale Says Sacks Are ‘Superficial’ | Ravens Final Drive – FANTASY FOOTBALL FAN SITE
LeRoi Lockley

Did he just say sacks are superficial🤔 that’s like saying tackling is superficial🤦 I don’t care what cornerback you have back there nobody can cover for five or six seconds

    RavenBoyz614

Swear I thought he did 😂😂😂

    Chance Jenkins

I agree with you on covering for 5 or 6 seconds
He also insinuated that getting after the QB is more on the staff and scheme than players. Now, great players does help that scheme but in today’s age of football, I’m with him in wanting cover guys over pass rushers. #RavensNation

    B Ray

Well I do think consistent pressure is more important than number of sacks. Aaron Donald doesn’t always get a lot of sacks but he is in the backfield .

    LeRoi Lockley

@Chance Jenkins and I still disagree the pass rush in the secondary goes hand-in-hand one excellent pass-rusher is a whole lot better than having one excellent DB just for the simple fact that someone can just choose not to throw in the direction of the DB

iONLY

If you get no sacks you don’t beat the great QBs. Getting sacks is the ONLY way to best Mahommes. Gotta put him on the dirt

    Pat H

The biggest thing is getting pressure with a 4 man rush. Cannot beat great QBs with blitzing every 3rd down. Ravens get burned so much doing that.

    Ray Finney

    @Pat H agreed

    nikeguy2

@Pat H We need a safety so the linebackers can cover better. As toxic as Earl Thomas III was, we never filled that gap.

    Cj Ryuk

@Pat H I remember during the chiefs game last year thinking that everytime we blitz to formulate pressure mahomes ate us up…. Constantly

    Luxus •

@nikeguy2 you mean we never filled the gap of ed reed. ET3 was good, but ed reed was the best saftey of all time. we will never fill the gap he left.

Larry.

lmfaoooo I think we’re fucked on the pass rush this year boys 😭

    Troispoint

They create more free rushers than anyone in the league. What he’s explaining is that players like Judon have an inflated value on the market, half his sacks were from being unblocked completely. Now they got a guy with sprinter speed at linebacker.

    Jamal

I believe the Baltimore ravens is waiting For June 1 When other team Cut their players

    jamah sassafras

Good think ur a couch Coordinator

    Larry.

    @jamah sassafras 🧂

    Eterday ClapZ

@Jamal there’s some players already available like Justin Houston

Charles Henshaw

If you have individual players that can get to the quarterback on there own you are a better team….period..

Mr.Avocado

Big ups to Garrrett Downing, mans been working around the clock. Keep it up

M Thor

I don’t agree with that. The better the front line plays, less the secondary had to do

GrandMasterMan1

Sacks…SUPERficial
Offensive playcalling….SUPERfishy

Sounds like we’re in for a SUPER season….? Maybe

Blue Iron Man

Ahhh I hate comments like this. Just say “don’t expect a lot of sacks this year”

    Luxus •

??? youve missed the point. sacks will happen this year same as they happened last year. the nfl is evolving more and more into a passing league, so as a result what a sack actualy accomplishes is less and less with passing being more and more the focus. the only time sacks matter is when it ends a 3rd down play and forces a punt. thats just more and more the nature of the league now.

Andrew Fung

Problem is everybody would want to be like us but they don’t got Wink or Bellicheck

    Big Dev

And now we have Rob Ryan.

TankBromansky

Sacks ain’t as important as quality consistent qb pressure. That leads to INTS

    KoodiGoCrxzy

The problem with that is that there extremely correlated, teams that lead the league in pressure rates almost always have similar sack numbers, there aren’t teams that get crazy pressure yet get no sacks, sacks are a product of pressure

    Luxus •

@KoodiGoCrxzy yes but the ravens have had high pressure rates while never having sack leaders because the teams defensive success is far more due to winks system then key player performance, aka all the awful takes that odafe oweh was a bad pick because he had 0 sacks last year. the pressure is far more important and sacks are the cherry on top, aka superficial.

    KoodiGoCrxzy

@Luxus • no they don’t pff ranks them in the middle in terms of 4 man pressure, no teams get high amount of pressures and low sacks, no team gets low amount of pressures and high sacks, in a play yes u can effect it with solely pressure, even over a game, but over a season both those stats naturally aline. They are codependent because sacks are a natural product of relentless pressure

    Luxus •

@KoodiGoCrxzy thank you for using PFF, your opinon has already been invalidated. have a good day.

DerMeisterXZ

I have to agree; sacks alone are not the best way to gauge the effectiveness of a pass rush. More detailed stats like pressure rate, QB hurries, and QB hits give a fuller picture when viewed in combination with sacks.

Retro Revelations

He can say that all he wants, yet the defenses that get a bunch of sacks, tend to be the most successful. That goes for past Ravens’ defenses too.

king shark

😏

William Demby

Wink is telling the truth, we always have a top 3 defense with no sack leader.

Controller Force

That’s my guy. Today’s corners MUST be able to cover a #1 receiver in today’s passing game. Shut dem down👊

TexasBass Fishing

Oweh 10 sacks this season😈👋🔥

Kassander

Sacks are superficial.. we just need to pressure Mahomboy and everything will take care of itself

Joshua Soplanit

Lesss gooo 😈🤞🏼

William Jones

Yeah Wink is right especially since Quarterbacks are more mobile nowadays 💯

Ladale Nesmith

Had to rewind a couple of times to make sure he didn’t say the “value of sex”
