GM Dave Gettleman Brings Excitement to Giants’ Draft Room | New York Giants

The NFL Draft has completed three rounds and Giants general manager Dave Gettleman, who entered this draft with a reputation as a reluctant trader, has executed a deal in every one of those rounds.

Great draft soo far but its soo Haaaawddd listening to that boston accent 😂

    Greg Rogers

    “He’s a press cawner

Bhellmz

Giants really became a different team since joe judge showed up!!!❤️❤️❤️

    James Beauchamps

    That’s a fact!

    Mark Wurz

Thank god someone else said it.

    Patrick Jaeger

Without Judge these trades back don’t happen. Joe has seen the tremendous value stockpiling draft picks in NE. Also given the tight cap space the team will encounter next offseason these trades make perfect sense

    Eric TheMidget

    Not really

    James Beauchamps

    @Patrick Jaeger very true

Matthew Reilly

I love this guy so much. He’s free entertainment

    Bill M

@Freedom Ring you commented on the Perkins era, I know he was head coach knucklehead, and Ray hired Bill, as an assistant. You need to do your homework

    Bill M

@AJ Kareem giants hater? Nah, I love the giants, season ticket holder and been to last 3 SB’s. You gettleman worshipers are just pathetic and living in a fantasy world, the guy is 15-33 and of his first 26 draft picks only dexter has been consistently good. Prove me wrong clown.

    Ketz

@Bill M In all fairness, last year was his first year with a real HC. It’s tough for a guy to build a team with a coaching staff that doesn’t have vision

    Bill M

@Ketz in all fairness gettleman recruited and championed the Pat Shurmur hire, go look it up, Pat was his first choice. So yeah, gettleman is the guy to blame for Pat

    Robert Kleinschmidt

DG made two mistakes. Pat Shurmur and trading up for baker. DG was handed the worst roster, salar cap and staff in the league. They’ve rebuilt this entire organization in just over 3 years. He was killed for the Williams trade, obj trade, etc. He’s done a fantastic job here and now the Giants have one of the youngest and most talented rosters in the NFL imo. With two first rounders next year with a stacked draft class in 2022 , they are set for sustainable success and consistency. Something the Giants haven’t done in a decade. GoBlue!

Great job Dave!

luc rative

i love how dave had zero smoke screens this year. he genuinely said everything he wanted to do before hand.

    YaBoyVoltage

@Sha Balla The Eagles were all over Smith tbh. Seeing how Hurts and Smith were teammates

    TheKillaShow

And it cost him Devonta Smith

    Eric TheMidget

    @TheKillaShow

    And we got a future 1st, 3rd and 4th

    We landed Oljuari and Toney

    Why are you crying?

    YaBoyVoltage

@TheKillaShow Do you seriously believe the Eagles werent going to take a WR? They werent going to risk it either way

    luc rative

@TheKillaShow yes, that’s the good part.

Patriotz

More blessings to Dave ❣️❣️❣️❣️🙏

bumgod75

He sounds more confident than in previous years

    Goaheadmakemyday

He finally has a good coach

    oldschoolfan

He better be confident. tired of losing and waiting to get better.

Mike C

The Giants trust their own judgement when it comes to player evaluation. That’s an impressive approach.

    Bill M

Impressive? Every GM trusts their own judgment. Until they’re fired

    Mike C

    @Bill M
What I meant was, some GMs might follow the herd mentality and always go after players based upon the prevailing concensus, while others put more stock in what their team sees. This is why so many early rounders flame out.
    Maybe???

    Bill M

@Mike C two mathematicians (from University of Chicago and Stanford I believe ) did a 20 year study of NFL draft picks and come up with the fact finding a good player is a coin flip. Interesting insight on how important luck is as a component of success.

    Mike C

    @Bill M
I don’t wanna be argumentative, but I interpret the Mathematicians’ findings in a different way. (keeping in mind that I don’t know the details of their methodology).
I would think that, if you know football, if you can see the reality of the draft prospects, zero in on the important traits, and accurately envision how they can fit your team, picking the guys who’ll work out for you is, to a large extent, under your control.
It’s more of an art than simply a guessing game, I guess.
Hence, having the penetrating insight to evaluate players, and trusting in your own abilities in this area, rather than relying on consensus opinions, is the higher way to approach the draft, and this is what I was trying to credit Judge, Getty and the rest of the Giants’ draft team for.

Kevin Whitter

Gettleman is a lot more entertaining when he’s making good, smart, moves.

    Bill M

@Kevin Whitter really? Please name a good OL starter gettleman found for the giants in round 4-7

    glenn stackhouse

@Bill M Bill, Bill, Bill: You don’t know that. 2-time SB champs oline: 2-UFA’s (Seubert & O’Hara) & 6th round pick (Diehl)…and that line wasn’t very good the 1st year. How’d they develop? Give it time. I agree on some sketchy early regime picks, but don’t discount the Judge factor this year & last. Excellent contributions from our picks in a very difficult pandemic season with little to no offseason prep time. So, perk up and don’t let the scar tissue from the past 10 years cloud your “Judge-ment”

    Bill M

@glenn stackhouse Glenn here’s what we do know, Thomas was the worst of the first round OL last year and really struggled most games, Hernandez took a big step back and probably won’t survive another yr, gates is serviceable but won’t be a difference maker, Peart is a big unknown but had a few good moments that gives some hope, Lemieux was terrible. That’s your line of the future. Even if we get lucky and 2 guys step up big we still have a crappy line. I can handle scars, would prefer to avoid more cuts.

    Mark Wurz

@glenn stackhouse this entire turn around in culture is on judge. Judge has the keys. Idc what anyone says. This draft is literally the direct opposite of everything dg has ever done and it comes down to judge running the show. Dave might have done the right thing and been willing to allow the coach to have a bigger role so I’ll give him credit for that. Nothing else. He’s a dinosaur and we would be better with Abrams handling the contracts and cap and judge handling personnel.

    Bill M

@Mark Wurz dude spot on assessment

Flymoolah man 27

I ain’t predicting nothing, deonte brown is a BIG FOCKIN GUY

Scruff D0g

In Joe Judge we trust.

    Eric TheMidget

You realize that Gettleman is the GM

thenothingboy

I think judge rubbed off on a DG who after cancer seems to be acting on some philosophical self relection. There’s a bit of magic going on before our eyes, this engine is hitting on all cylinders this off-season. I can’t wait to see if they can translate this energy into wins and being competitive! LETS GOOOOOOO GMEN

Bryan Yearwood

I can honestly say that im impressed by the Giants draft picks and moves this year. Good work G-Men.

Freedom Ring

Gettleman is on fire this draft.

Amadden mind

Hes a god damn rock star today thank you gettlemen great great job

Chico 169

So glad this man is finally getting the credit he deserves. Guy had his hands tie from the moment he got here. He has the ability to run the team correctly now that we are out of the cap hell that we were in.

    Chico 169

@tractor fone Joe has definitely been a fresh pair of eyes for DG. He’s not a yes man and he’ll give his input. I do think there’s a 50/50 power split between DG and Judge with Mara being the final say.

    Nash Scheber

@Mark Wurz your saying that like Shurmur had no input on who to draft or sign. If it wasn’t for Shurmur the giants would’ve never drafted Jones .

    tractor fone

@Mark Wurz Your right Mark, Gettlemen couldn’t get out of his own way. He’s horrible. Gettleman giving contracts to the likes of Nate Solder, Jonathan Stewart, Patrick Omameh, Kareem Martin and Antoine Bethea.

    Mark Wurz

@Nash Scheber shurmur didn’t have half the influence judge does. Period.

    Nash Scheber

@Mark Wurz you sure about that ? You must not have heard Gettleman chose Daniel Jones because Shurmur love him

Scott Covino

“This trading down thing is pretty fun huh?”

Bob

Sharpest and most confident he has sounded in a long time.
