Gregory Campbell

I can see the hawks bringing him back in two or 3 years. He will definitely always be welcomed.

    Gregory Campbell

@Scot Alexander Yeah I’m willing to bet its only 16M a year. He could command more if he was close to a lockdown cover DB as well but he and the league knows he not. I get they only have 3 draft picks but I’m still worried about that position. Especially if they have to depend on Tre flowers for a long stretch due to injury. I know its not their scheme but I just wish they would let reed guard the opposing teams number 1 more often cause he’s so sticky.

    Thunderwolf

@Scot Alexander Ok, Reed was definitely not needed, way too inconsistent, and did not want a contract Seattle was offering. Jamal is going to be worth 18M and won’t take 16M, especially after the Simmons contract, and seeing as more time we waste, the more expensive he gets. Plus yes his sacks are often unblocked, but he is not a true pass rusher, the only reason why we use him a lot is that he still gets a ton of pressure, his tackling ability is great, but he can cover, unlike what the media says too. I am more than fine with paying him 18M because it would free up the cap, and by the time it hurts us, many of our bigger deals will likely be cut down, and we could replace them through the draft.

    Thunderwolf

@Gregory Campbell I think we either draft a CB or sign Dunbar/Sherm or sum like that. I would like Dj Reed and either a rookie or a FA to start and have Amadi and Blair in the slot. But no, Jamal is not going to be only 16M imo, probably about 18M, because of that Simmons deal, Minkah is getting a new contract, and every second makes him more expensive.

    Scot Alexander

@Thunderwolf Reed was consistently double teamed until Dunlap got here.
I’m ok with releasing him for cap space, but it’s definitely a downgrade. Hopefully a young player steps up.
In regards to Adams I don’t care how good he is, 18M on a Safety is too much.
Especially on a team with so many needs. Plus all the 1 year contracts.
I appreciate you feeling Adams is worth it. I just have a different opinion. I believe the money would be best spent on O-line and D-line. Playoff games are won in the trenches, not with a safety making top DE money. I’d prefer gaining cap space and draft picks by trading him; over temporary cap space by extending him.
    I don’t believe they’ll trade him though.
So it’s pretty much a mute point on my part. I’ll just hope they find a way to improve the use of his skills. He did play better after Dunlap arrived and he was asked to blitz less. If he’s here, I’d prefer they just let him be a play maker and continue to cut down the blitzes. Obviously this requires our front 4 to get pressure. I guess we’ll see

    Thunderwolf

@Scot Alexander Reed was only good when he had another DE to play with him. In 2018, he was good with Clark and came one when Dunlap came. Woods is not a bad replacement, and seeing how well Collier played at run defense, I won’t be surprised to see him at DT, which would not be a huge downgrade considering Reed has had only 4 sacks without Dunlap and Clark the last two years, and he is the third most expensive player. Now regarding Adams, he only returned from injury when Dunlap came and was amazing from then on. Keep in mind, he was amazing in coverage with the Jets and can still cover, and this was his first year in a new scheme. He also dealt with broken fingers and hurt both shoulders. I think next year he is going to be even better in coverage and we already know he can tackle and pressure well. Then his price is undoubtedly going to go up. I think his total contract will be 18M a year even if his cap hit will be lower.
