2002 Wild Card (Jan. 5, 2003): Pittsburgh Steelers come back to defeat the Cleveland Browns 36-33

On January 5, 2003, the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off an improbable comeback to defeat the Cleveland Browns 36-33 in the 2002 Wild Card round.

Tommy Maddox, the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year, led one of Pittsburgh's greatest comebacks by throwing three touchdown passes in the final 19 minutes as the Steelers rallied from a 17-point deficit to stun the Browns 36-33.

Chris Fuamatu-Ma'afala's 3-yard touchdown run with 54 seconds left secured the Steelers' most dramatic come-from-behind playoff victory since Franco Harris' Immaculate Reception against Oakland in 1972.

The Steelers trailed 17-7 at the half, 24-7 in the third quarter and 33-21 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Watch the Steelers take on the Browns in the 2020 Wild Card round on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 8:15 pm on NBC.

They actually played it twice

aidan aw

browns fans are so hyped when they barely beat us when we were without TJ, Cameron, Joe, Ben, Bud, and Vince lol

    Mr Linn

@aidan aw idk about that tbh I don’t really care for Conner I liked snell but he inconsistent asf I hope we draft a tackle unless najee is available. If najee gone then tackle first round then chuba hubbard or Trey sermon second

    Taylor Dively

I’ve had so many Browns fans tell me that they are better. I want to know why we beat them by 31 at full strength, they beat a JV squad by 2, they lost to an elementary squad in Week 16, they lost to the Ravens twice, we beat the Ravens twice, AND we have a better record.

    Mr Linn

@Taylor Dively steeler fan as well btw . But we shouldn’t of struggled vs the jv ravens lol

    Cookey

2002: (6) Browns @ (3) Steelers

2020: (6) Browns @ (3) Steelers

Also, what’s funny is that the final 2 digits in both years are the same in reverse lol

Here We Go, Steelers!

Players were built different, physically (and probably mentally) back then. This was one of the games that made me a Steelers fan out in the middle of nowhere in Kentucky. This and Polamalu’s hair.
