@John Doe Not once have I suggested calling anyone a DE. I think that positional terminology is completely useless in the NFL. I WOULD suggest calling him an EDGE, rather than an OLB. And you’re just wrong about 4-3 “DEs” or 3-4 “OLBs” playing coverage just as much as off ball linebackers. For a 4-3 edge, they almost never do it. The only time they theoretically might would be in some zone blitz or overload blitz plays where they would shift out to a flat or hook zone. For 3-4 Edges, they do it a bit more often, but even then its probably less than 20% of their overall snaps, on average. On pass plays, a player like Isaiah Simmons is going to be in coverage well over 80% of the time. Its not even remotely close to what a player like Watt does, despite the fact that Watt may occasionally drop into a zone or something. Last year, TJ Watt was targeted in coverage a grand total of 4 times. That, versus an actual LB like Lavonte David, who was targeted 67 times in coverage.

@Beanie Thank you for trying to explain to this dude. Some people just can’t grasp the difference in talents and physique it takes for a 3/4 or 4/3 LB. I personally appreciate the athleticism for a 4/3 LB, especially when they’re asked to play on the line like Parsons does. To be able to rush and drop back in coverage the way Parsons does is just incredible.

@kI No he wouldn’t. Most of his sacks came off blitzes where he went untouched. Put him on the line and he’s no where as efficient.

@Bean Team 2 buddy, I’m a Seahawks fan and I’ll even admit that Nick Bosa was held all game in the Super Bowl and still got a sack on Mahomes. Micah kind of disappeared in the playoffs, whereas Bosa stepped up in the playoffs. Plus the only reason Parsons got more sacks is because he comes off the edge as a linebacker, it decreases the chances of getting doubled teamed greatly, this is why TJ Watt was able to get so many sacks. Bosa is a DE and still got a lot of sacks and QB pressures. Not trying to take anything away from Micah’s legendary regular season performance, but both defensive players went to solid teams but only one of them went to the super bowl.

The sack against J. Herbert to win the game was crazy. His closing speed was on full display. I don’t think I’ve seen anyone with faster closing speed than Parsons.

@Uselessbox again he only lined up as an edge rusher in less than 33% of his snaps according to PFF. Not sure what it is you can’t comprehend. Like I said make him a full time edge rusher and he is without a doubt an all pro in that position too and I’m not the only person that will say that, matter of fact I would say majority of analysts, fans, coaches etc all would rather have him as an edge rusher than as a LB. I personally think he was extremely effective the way they used him last yr. He lined up in 4 different positions, made elite plays in coverage, run defense and produced a lot of sacks and a lot more TFLs. The fact that he had 33 QB hits and he isn’t even a pass rusher is an insane stat. Von miller’s career high is 30 QB hits in one season. Parsons in his rookie season as a part time rusher made that level of impact. I don’t think you understand how rare that is

All draft I knew we’d get Surtan if available. But I kept telling my friends I preferred Micah becuz you build a defense starting with the front 7. With no pressure great CBs can seem avg and with pressure avg CBs can look great.

I looked at Parsons highlights from Penn state. When Dallas drafted him. I was super impressed. His speed and quick burst. Was insane for his size.
