Like all other games, your goal is to win in the fantasy football game you are participating in. The question is how to win in the game. In football game, various tasks are assigned to different people, while in fantasy football game you will play and do these various responsibilities or roles.

Different Roles in Fantasy Football

Playing the fantasy football game requires you to take several roles. In order to win the game, you should do these roles like in the real game. These roles are as follows:

Scout – As a scout, you will have to do research and gather information regarding the football players, especially those available for drafting. You will need to make a list of these players and rank them based on your preferences so it will be easier for you to compose your fantasy team.

General Manager – In order to win the game, good managing skills are important. Manage your players by selecting and completing your team with the best players possible.  You may have to drop players if necessary and replace them with better ones.

Coach – As a coach, you will be arranging your team by designating each player to the positions they must be in. There are positions that are required to be filled in on each game. You will choose who are the starters, or those who will play in the game, and who will not, or who will take the bench. Your wise decision is necessary for each game.

Owner – In fantasy football, you are responsible for choosing the right league which your team will participate in. This is an important factor so it should not be taken lightly.  You are the representative to sign contracts and the way things will happen depends on you. You have the duty to check the rules of the leagues and know how to gain points using these rules. You have the full control of your team.

When you have done the roles properly and wisely, you will be more likely to succeed in the game. Other than these roles, it is important that you also know the scoring system for the games because the more points you gain, the better your chance of winning the game will be. Another important thing to know in order to win this game is the starting line-up formats. These items are provided below for your reference.

Scoring System in Fantasy Football

There are various ways of scoring arranged in a league. Although most leagues usually use below scoring system:

  • 1 point for every 10 yards rushing
  • 1 point for every 10 yards receiving
  • 1 point for every 25 yards passing
  • 4 points for each touchdown pass
  • 6 points for each touchdown run
  • 6 points for each touchdown catch
  • (-1) point for each interception
  • 1 point for each extra point
  • 3 points for each field goal
  • For the Defensive, below are the scoring system:
  • 1 point per INT and FUM recovery
  • 0.5 points per sack
  • 1 point per TD
  • 5 points per safety
  • 10 points for shut out

To gain more points, below are the scoring system:

Points Per Reception (PPR): 1 point per reception 

When one player has done one the following:

  • passes for 300 yards
  • rushes for 100 yards
  • or receives for 85 yards

5 point bonus is given to the player

The above scoring system may differ on each league. The other scoring system being used on each league includes the TD-Only Scoring Leagues  (touchdown only) and the “pure yardage” league. The scoring system will help you find out how to gain more points, what offensive actions should be done to score more, as well as what defensive actions should be done in the game. Starting Line-Up Formats Variations

If you are coaching a team, you have to assign the best player for a certain position. In fantasy football, there are different positions for the line-up and these are:

  • Quarterback (QB)
  • Running Back  (RB)
  • Wide Receiver (WR)
  • Tight End (TE)
  • Flex RB/WR/TE (RB/WR/TE)
  • Placekicker (K)
  • Team Defense/Special Teams (D/ST)
  • Bench (BN)

Various Line-up formations are also used. Below are some of these formations:

  • 1QB, 2RBs, 2WRs, 1TE, 1K, 1Def
  • 1QB, 2RBs, 3WRs, 1TE, 1K, 1Def
  • 1QB, 2RBs, 2WRs, 1FLEX, 1TE, 1K, 1Def

There are other variations, and there is no right or wrong format. The most important thing to remember is that it has to be close to the standards, so there will be no problem when referring to the fantasy rankings.
