COLUMBIA, S.C. — Jadeveon Clowney believes he should be the top pick in the draft and says he took a big step toward that goal during South Carolina’s pro day workouts Wednesday.
The 6-foot-5, 266-pound defensive end did position drills in front of dozens of league personnel, including Texans coach Bill O’Brien and Jaguars coach Gus Bradley. Clowney ran through cones, jumped over hurdles and caught tennis balls as he took part in the defensive line workouts he passed on at the NFL combine in February.
He did not lift weights or run the 40-yard dash, standing on his showings at the combine.
Clowney spent Tuesday night at dinner with the Texans officials, including O’Brien, defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel and general manager Rick Smith. The Texans have the top selection in May’s draft.Copyright 2014 by The Associated Press
